Sports Activity Center Introduce
For residents of Independence and the greater Eastern Jackson County area of Missouri, local sports facilities are essential community resources. The Sports Activity Center (SAC), located on Holke Road, serves as one such local hub, primarily recognized as a multi-purpose indoor sports facility utilized by various organizations, including youth basketball leagues (such as Agape Hoops) and the growing pickleball community. While the provided information identifies the facility's primary classification as a 'Gymnastics center,' its operational use extends to providing a covered court space for year-round recreational activities and organized sports programs.
The center’s role in the community is to provide a dedicated indoor venue where local athletes can practice, compete, and engage in fitness activities, regardless of the Missouri weather. It is frequently booked for league play and offers a space for individual or small group recreational use, particularly for basketball and pickleball, which utilizes its existing court infrastructure. As a local facility, it aims to support youth development by being a 'Good for kids' location where young players can develop their athletic skills.
It is important for local users to set expectations that align with the center's resources. The SAC is noted by patrons as a relatively "small" facility, typically featuring a single main court space. While it provides a vital function for numerous sports groups in Independence, prospective users should consider its size and the overall maintenance reported by some customers, with reviews noting concerns about cleanliness and court quality. Nonetheless, the fact that major local leagues utilize this facility highlights its continuous, if functionally basic, role in the Independence sports scene.
The Sports Activity Center is conveniently located in Independence, Missouri, making it accessible to families throughout the eastern portion of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Its positioning on Holke Road places it within the Independence community's sports and recreational landscape.
The facility’s full address is:
17800 Holke Rd, Independence, MO 64057, USA
The center has taken steps to ensure it is available to the entire community by including essential accessibility features:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance: Facilitating easy access for individuals with mobility needs.
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot: Providing designated, convenient parking close to the entrance for patrons requiring accessible spots.
- Wheelchair accessible restroom: Ensuring comfort and full usability of the facilities for all guests.
In terms of on-site amenities, the SAC provides necessary functional facilities. Payment for fees, leagues, or court time is simplified as the center accepts Credit cards, offering a modern convenience for busy Missouri families.
Though classified as a gymnastics center, the primary service of the Sports Activity Center revolves around providing indoor court rental and space for organized sports programs. The facility’s amenities and primary usage dictate the key services provided to the local community:
- Indoor Court Access (Basketball): Providing a climate-controlled, covered space, noted as a small, one-court gym, that is routinely used for youth and adult basketball leagues, including highly organized competitive programs like Agape Hoops.
- Pickleball Play: The facility often hosts organized pickleball open play and court reservations, utilizing its hard indoor surface and portable nets to cater to the sport's growing popularity in the region.
- Gymnastics Center Use: The facility's official classification suggests it is equipped or used for basic gymnastics or tumbling activities, likely for small recreational classes or drills.
- Restroom Availability: Offering essential on-site sanitation facilities for guests and athletes.
- Space for Organized Sports: Serving as a venue for various local athletic organizations to hold practices, games, and tournaments for different sports.
The core value of the SAC is its function as a reliable, reservable indoor venue for the Independence sports community.
The Sports Activity Center, despite its modest size, possesses features that make it a functional choice for specific local users in Independence:
- Year-Round Indoor Play: As an enclosed facility, the SAC allows local teams, leagues, and recreational players to continue their activities without interruption from Missouri's changing weather, a significant advantage over outdoor courts.
- Host to Recognized Leagues: The involvement of established youth organizations like Agape Hoops demonstrates that the center is a recognized and utilized venue for organized, competitive youth sports in the Kansas City area.
- Accessibility Compliance: Full wheelchair accessibility (entrance, parking, and restrooms) is a major highlight, ensuring the facility is inclusive and accessible to all members of the community, including coaches, parents, and athletes with special needs.
- Payment Convenience: Accepting Credit cards streamlines the process for event organizers, parents, and recreational players to pay fees or make reservations quickly and electronically.
- Pickleball Potential: For fans of this rapidly growing sport, the center provides dedicated indoor courts with permanent lines, making it a reliable spot for pickleball enthusiasts during the winter months.
For inquiries regarding the rental of the basketball court, pickleball reservations, or information about youth programs hosted at the venue, local residents can use the following details. Note that management and program contact details may be associated with the organizations that rent the facility, such as Agape Hoops, or the City of Independence Parks and Recreation Department.

(Note: A general public phone number for the facility is not consistently available in the provided data. Users are advised to contact the specific sports organization hosting an event at the location for direct inquiries.)
Choosing the Sports Activity Center in Independence, MO, is a decision best made when understanding its core utility and limitations. It is worth choosing this facility if:
- You are part of an organized league: The center is primarily a functional venue for local leagues, like youth basketball, that require a dedicated indoor court space for scheduled games and tournaments throughout the year.
- You are a dedicated pickleball player: The facility provides a much-needed indoor option with the necessary court lines and equipment for consistent pickleball play, especially when outdoor courts are unusable.
- Accessibility is a priority: The commitment to a fully accessible environment for all guests, from parking to restrooms, is a key strength that benefits the entire community.
However, prospective users should be aware that customer feedback highlights significant concerns regarding the physical condition and maintenance of the facility, including the quality of the basketball equipment, court cleanliness, and organizational issues related to scheduling and referee consistency in some programs. As a small, local venue, expectations should be set for a basic, functional indoor sports space, rather than a state-of-the-art complex. For the price and purpose—a convenient, accessible roof over a hard court—the SAC serves its basic role in the Independence sports landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It's a small one court gym. The basketball rims are so ran down and there's so much food and sugary drinks on the floor that there was 500 ants all over the floor, under the bleachers. One kid got hit in the face and had blood all over the court. The kid collecting money came over and wiped it up with a dry towel. He didn't bother spraying to disinfect it. It's was just gross here.
June 18 · TrinaDo NOT even waste your time let alone money with this organization. This by far the worst program I have ever been involved in. You are lucky to find a parking spot before you even enter the building. They don't know if you are home or away prior to the game and will change it just before game time so you have to change jerseys depending on what coach is friends is friends with what ref. The refs have different rules and don't even communicate during games so you would be lucky to have a fair game. I will do my absolute best to publicize my frustrations in Hope's no one wastes even one dollar or one minute of their time. Absolutely ridiculous. The fact that I even have to choose 1 star just to post how much of a waste this program is makes me hate it even more.
January 07 · Rachel BryantIt was ok, single sided spectator bench but it goes the length of the court. No mask mandatory in this building though I think Independence is under a mandatory currently. We were there for a basketball tournament. They have a concessions stand but I didn't check the prices.
September 18 · Shanell HDoes it have a day pass? Like can I pay to hoop on the court for a couple hours?
April 08 · Brad3n_ boss912Everyone of my kids have trained at this facility. Great place. Lots of memories.
