★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1You’re asking for reviews YMCAMost staff is what makes this gym wonderful. P.E. Teachers very friendly as well as Coach. Women at the front desk and Greg in wellness center are true gems. Class instructors have been so caring. After joining here came summer camp, and the pool is closed for camp kids. The pool restrooms, steam rooms and saunas then became family/coed with age of 18 and older. Had a man in a swim cap and speedos following me in the (previous designated women side) but turned around and left. I called the person responsible for the change and was never called back. Spoke to the pool supervisor and was told my concern is heard but this change was in process since 2020 but delayed since COVIDSo today I went in since the coed signs, “can’t wear just a towel in pool area”, 18 older” are all posted. Didn’t see anyone on the previous men side and went to what use to be the women side. Here comes a man right behind me, right behind me holding the door at my shoulder. He sits across from me and starts talking. I was nice and said hello. Then comes out his remarks on me and my position and his observations of me, very unsettling. He continues talking softly and I turn up my volume on my earbuds. This change of making all rooms coed is not only uncomfortable but quite dangerous. This does not benefit its members, but puts us in compromising situations and I do not trust these board members with my family or myself. Protect your members and keep these areas of bathing suit wear private, you have the rooms. Why encourage these problems.
August 06 · EmJ PIf I could give the YMCA a zero I would. I just called to see if there’s access to basketball and of course there’s a private event. When I asked if there was any more events and if she was sure she laughed and asked me who I was—to which I said I am a member—then she quickly pulled out her fake customer service voice and proceeded to tell me that they continue to have no access to the basketball courts until (maybe) next week. We have done many classes and basketball leagues for our daughters here (& at Massad) and finally said maybe it was time to become members. We did last month. WASTE OF MONEY. They never allow members to access anything but their work out gym that has limited machines as it is that all the men usually hog. Between their "private events" and their swim team practices. You WILL never have access to the pool or basketball court. They also close everything an hour before they actually close the entire facility so that’s out the window if you want to catch the last hour they’re open. I hope I can save another family or individual their money—just go join a gym and use them on an as needed basis. Their membership is a total waste of time and money. Everyone at the front desk either has no clue about anything or are extremely rude and unprofessional. You’d think customer service would be up on their list of important things. We have terminated our membership and plan to NEVER join again. It’s a total scam to join when they offer everything to everyone else and prioritize outside sources/people more than their own members.
May 15 · Hilda MelendezIt is a great gym, but the pool is fantastic! There are tons of fitness classes, a weight room, and fitness studios. There's even a big gymnasium for large family friendly events or a pick up basketball game. But I go for the pool! There's plenty of room for lap swim, but I adore the water aerobics & Aqua Zumba classes. The teachers here are the Best I've seen. The lifeguards are very professional but friendly. And the staff are generally friendly & helpful.
May 31 · NatalieJust left this facility feeling discriminated against, the ladies at the front desk were rude (Amy M and the other lady that works along side her today) because I told them I’m practicing for basketball league. They made it seem like” it’s not a thing “ when I play basketball there every Monday at the ymca for a men’s basketball league and come to practice a couple hours before just to get some shots up (30 mins tops). They asked if I payed for the league (ofcourse I did) then tried to get me to pay more to enter and I refused. Then said come back later this evening to enter for free when the games are just hours away. This facility has to get it together! This the ymca, you supposed to feel like family in there and they don’t even have heat in the Locker rooms. I also I don’t write many reviews but this happened one too many times with Amy , just weird vibes.
February 24 · Island Mike Withda FuegoThe worst experience with swimming instructors in YMCA here in Smith Station. I went on Saturday at 10am and didn’t know that they do t have open swim until we were in the pool and the lifeguard came and nicely told me that it’s not time for open swim. On the other hand the swimming instructors were so rude and the way they were treating me and my special needs kids that we don’t belong here. She was not disturbing anyone at all just sitting on the steps even not get in to the pool.Careful when you hire an instructor because if they don’t respect others it means they only work for money.
