This approach has made Planet Fitness a popular choice for those new to the gym scene or anyone looking for a no-frills, straightforward fitness solution. The club provides a wide array of cardio and strength equipment, along with several unique perks that come with its membership tiers. This article will offer a clear, factual overview of the Planet Fitness location in Astoria, including its services, features, and an honest look at what you can expect, based on available public information.
Planet Fitness has built its brand on a foundation of affordability and accessibility. The Astoria location, like others in the franchise, is known for its low-cost membership options that provide a great entry point into a fitness routine. The gym offers different membership tiers, each with its own set of perks. The standard membership grants you unlimited access to your home club, while the "Black Card" membership offers enhanced benefits. These include the ability to bring a guest anytime and use of popular amenities like HydroMassage™ and massage chairs. While the staff, as a whole, is often described as friendly and professional, some customer reviews have pointed out significant concerns regarding management and the maintenance of the facility. These include issues with broken equipment, poor air ventilation, and a perceived lack of responsiveness from management. It's important for potential members to be aware of these concerns, as they may impact their experience. However, the basic principle of providing a "Judgement Free Zone" remains a core part of the gym's appeal, particularly for those who are new to working out in a public setting.

Choosing a gym is a personal choice, and the Planet Fitness in Astoria is worth considering for its accessible and affordable fitness model. For many New Yorkers, the low monthly fee and the non-intimidating "Judgement Free Zone" are exactly what they need to get started on their fitness journey. The gym offers a variety of machines and equipment, along with the convenience of showers and free Wi-Fi. The additional perks for Black Card members, such as the ability to bring a guest and use of massage chairs, add significant value. However, it is important to be aware of the feedback from members regarding maintenance and management, which highlight potential issues with equipment and facility upkeep. These concerns, particularly regarding sanitation and air quality, are serious and should be considered by anyone thinking of joining. The best way to make an informed decision, as one reviewer suggested, is to visit the location yourself and compare it with other nearby Planet Fitness clubs to see if it meets your personal standards. For the right person, the gym provides a straightforward and economical path to a healthier lifestyle, but for others, the issues raised in reviews may be a significant deterrent.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Terrible for the whole month of March. Let me list the highlights of the month:- Terrible attitude from the manager, Adrianna. Whether you tell her anything or not, it wont make a difference. Its like there is no manager.- A hydro-bed that doesn't work for over a month.- About a week with no paper-towels. Try doing cardio and not having anything to clean the equipment, let alone yourself or from the sweaty person that used the equipment before you.- Water fountain on the upper floor with missing water push-switches for about a week. No water available. Bring your own, or go 2 floors down to hydrate yourself.- A stock pile of complain forms. Apparently a lot of members file complains.- Basement water fountain missing also the push switches. Barely working.- Unbearable bad quality air when it is overcrowded on the top floor. No air ventilation. They have some cheap 99cent store fans, but no HVAC air recycle. They keep the entrance door open to air out in 2025.- Walls with pealed of paint.- Lockers with broken doors.- Did I mention that the manager seems to not do much?- The list goes on. I reported higher up, but still things don't move to the right directions.- The massage chairs are outdated, and are barely working.Visit it, and then go visit another location like in Corona. LIC Queensboro or Manhattan and see for yourself. The one good thing is, most of the STAFF is friendly, and apologize for the situation. On the other hand the manager "Adrianna", will just listen with apathy and do nothing.Very frustrated black membership member.
March 31 · christos dI’ve been to a lot of gyms in my life, but I have never experienced anything this dangerous. Today I passed out in the locker room from the extreme heat and lack of ventilation. I had to be taken to the ER for evaluation. The air here is hot, heavy, and completely stagnant you can feel it the moment you walk in. Members have been complaining for years, and the manager, Adriana, just blames the HVAC and does nothing. This is a serious health hazard. If I had been alone, this could have ended much worse. I will be contacting corporate directly and considering legal options. No one should be risking their health at a gym.
August 15 · GigiBeen coming here for years and I’m finally speaking up. I understand planet fitness is inexpensive but that shouldn’t mean we get less than the bare minimum. Machines are ALWAYS broken. There are only 4 stair masters and 1 or 2 are constantly broken. A lot of the treadmills are broken too, and I notice it’s always the same ones, particularly the ones in the back row. I notice they took away some of the paper towel dispensers, so now we have to walk far from our machine to get it, and guess what… a lot of the time it’s empty. Sorry but if you think I’m gonna walk around the whole gym looking for paper towel to clean my machine, I’m not. The water fountains often break as well. And the bulbs in the tanning bed are always out. It’s a shame. What will it take for them to actually care and fix this gym?
June 17 · JayI was working out here today when another member collapsed in the locker room from the heat. They had to be taken to the ER. This is not the first time I’ve heard about people feeling dizzy here — the air is so hot and stale it feels dangerous. The manager, Adriana, brushed it off just like she always does, blaming the HVAC. This isn’t just uncomfortable anymore, it’s a health risk.
August 15 · Chloe B.I transferred to this Planet Fitness after moving to Astoria from Bay Shore at the beginning of May, and my experience at the Astoria location could not have been worse. I could honestly have given 1 stars for the broken equipment and extreme heat, but that's not why I'm leaving this review. I'm leaving a 1 star review because Planet Fitness charged me a late fee for no reason, and the manager, Adriana, could not have been bothered to call me back once despite me leaving several complaints for the workers to document. After my first or second week there, the PF app popped up a screen that my bank account disconnected from the app. I never got an email about this from PF. But I explained the situation to the worker, re-did my bank account details (even though no bank account details changed on my end). A few days later, the PF app notifies me that I'm late on my payment specifically because of this bank disconnection and that I'll be charged a late fee. I manually pay my $15 membership fee via credit card in person on May 18th. The next week, I have to explain the situation to each worker why my app won't let me scan in. They documented this complaint, with the latest being May 24th. I was told several times that the manager Adriana would contact me, and not once did she ever each out. After trying to re-enter my bank account a 4th time on the app, this time it seemed to have finally connected. As soon as this happens, I get charged a $20 late fee on June 6th. I tell this to the front desk workers, and yet I still hear nothing from management.June 22nd, on a Sunday, I finally ran into the assistant manager whose name escaped me. Finally thinking I was going to have this resolved, she promised me that she would call me back after speaking to the manager Adriana on Monday, June 23rd. Again nothing. After this, I had no choice but to cancel. The lack of respect from the management at this business is appalling.I would like to shoutout Brian and Claire, who were the front desk workers I spoke to most of the time. They were incredible and very understanding. I completely got this was not their issue and they did not have the authority to change anything. Honestly, I don't understand why they are not in management positions here.If anyone asks me whether they should join this gym, I will tell them to run as far away as possible.
