Pilates Coven Introduce
Welcome to Pilates Coven, a unique and empowering wellness center located in the heart of New York City’s Lower East Side. In a city filled with countless fitness options, Pilates Coven distinguishes itself as a studio built on the principles of community, inclusivity, and empowerment. As a proudly Black-owned, Latino-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and women-owned business, it has created a safe space—a "Transgender safespace"—where people from all walks of life can feel welcome and supported on their wellness journey. This is more than just a place to work out; it's a vibrant community that values kindness, knowledge, and personal growth.
The philosophy of Pilates Coven is centered on the belief that movement is magic and should be accessible, affordable, and inclusive for everyone, regardless of age, race, body size, orientation, or income status. The studio's mission is to share the life-changing benefits of Pilates with its community, helping every individual who walks through its doors feel good, move well, and step into their power. The expert team of instructors, who are noted for their attentiveness and genuine enthusiasm, are dedicated to providing an uplifting and motivating environment. They are not just teachers; they are a part of a supportive "Coven" that cheers on every member.
Pilates Coven specializes in the Pilates method, a unique system of exercises designed to connect you deeply to your body as a whole. This low-impact strength training modality targets multiple aspects of physical fitness, including strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and mobility. While the studio's offerings may seem intimidating to a beginner, the instructors are highly skilled at providing modifications and support, making the classes accessible to all levels. One first-time client noted that their instructor, Andrea, was "so friendly, warm, positive," and made them feel "genuinely happy I was there." This welcoming approach is a cornerstone of the studio's success.
The studio's focus on a great vibe is consistently praised by its members. Reviews highlight the positive atmosphere, with the music, lighting, and overall tone contributing to a pleasant experience. Members feel supported not just by the instructors but by their fellow practitioners, creating a positive and encouraging social environment. This sense of community is a major reason why many people wish they could attend more often. The studio's commitment to supporting its employees, who "genuinely enjoy" their work, also translates into a better experience for the clients, creating a cycle of positivity and mutual respect.
Pilates Coven offers a diverse range of services to meet various fitness needs. In addition to their core group classes, they also provide private training for a more personalized experience. These one-on-one sessions are ideal for those new to Pilates, recovering from an injury, or with specific fitness goals, such as prenatal or postnatal guidance. The studio's flexibility extends to its outdoor services, which provide an opportunity to practice in the fresh air, a refreshing change from a typical indoor gym setting. The availability of both onsite and outdoor services gives clients more options to fit their lifestyle.
For those interested in a boutique, small-group class, Pilates Coven is a top recommendation. The intimate setting allows instructors to stay in "close proximity" and provide active support and corrections throughout the entire class, ensuring that each member performs the exercises safely and effectively. This level of attention is a significant advantage over larger, more crowded fitness centers, where personalized instruction is often limited. The positive reviews from clients who have taken classes with multiple instructors, like Sabrina, Sarah, and Shira, further highlight the talent and diversity of the teaching team.
The studio's dedication to creating a safe and inclusive space is a major selling point. In a city with a high LGBTQ+ population, the explicit identification as LGBTQ+ friendly and a Transgender safespace is not just a feature; it's a promise of a welcoming environment. The use of a gender-neutral restroom is another example of this commitment to inclusivity. This creates a space where every person can focus on their workout without fear of judgment or mistreatment, which is a powerful and necessary element of a true wellness center.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have found Pilates Coven to offer exceptional community, a great vibe (with music/lighting/overall tone), and talented instructors. I would describe myself as very new in my practice but I’ve found that you can learn something special from the different styles of the instructors. I especially enjoy the classes with Sabrina, Sarah, and Shira. I think I most appreciate how attentive the instructors are and how they stay in close proximity and are actively supporting and when necessary correcting throughout the entire class. Everyone who works there seems to genuinely enjoy it and seems supported and valued in their work, which is something that makes me really appreciate supporting a small business. I also find the other people who attend to be positive and supportive of one another.I wish I could attend Pilates Coven more often than I do! But I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a boutique small group fitness class.
March 05 · Ashley WillischTerrific class - this was my first ever Pilates class and I’m so glad I went. Andrea is so friendly, warm, positive - when I came in she seemed so genuinely happy I was there, and she explained everything so calmly and clearly throughout class.EDIT: already took a second class, with Sabrina. Another total win of a class. Loved it! Sabrina is super smart, patient, great great teacher. I felt great walking out!
May 24 · Katy WischowTried Pilates Coven this past weekend. I’ve never done Pilates before, ever. I wanted to try it and researched a great spot for beginners. I was looking for a class that was open, fun and welcoming to someone in a bigger body. This did not disappoint. From the welcome, to the intro, to the workout, to the social interactions, to the end of workout check in and the see you later it was great. The class was with Shira, who is delightful. I’ll definitely be back…I just booked my next class.
May 12 · Vic SmithI’ve been coming to Pilates Coven for a few months now. I actually chose this studio for my first ever dabble into Pilates. I highly recommend Sabrina’s beginner classes - she is very articulate, caring, and communicative about the reformer, moves, props etc. I received a great base knowledge that within a few sessions, I moved to the all level classes. I highly recommend Sabrina for those as well. I would also recommend Andrea’s classes. She is so great at cueing and gives you many modifications if needed. She is clearly knowledgeable and her classes are always so fun, yet challenging, yet a learning experience about your body and Pilates itself. Give this studio a try!
February 22 · Katie MVery friendly staff, great reformer class. Highly recommendable.I came back here daily during my NY trip: a perfect basic strengthening, stretching and centering practise adding more physical balance to a lot of walking. Intro packages for 4 classes have you set for a short stay :)
