Offutt Field House Introduce
Introduction / Overview
The Offutt Field House is not just another gym; it is an incredible piece of Nebraska history and a massive hub for physical fitness, famously known as the largest fitness center in the Department of Defense (DoD). Housed within a gigantic, repurposed World War II-era hangar, this facility provides an astonishing 220,000 square feet of space dedicated to health, sports, and comprehensive physical training. This unique setting allows the Field House to offer an unparalleled selection of fitness equipment and indoor recreation facilities that few commercial centers in the region can match.
Local users in the Nebraska area who are authorized to access the facility will find a true nirvana for fitness enthusiasts. The sheer volume of space means the facility can accommodate everything from Olympic lifting to swimming, group aerobics, and full-court sports simultaneously. Patrons frequently highlight the vast selection of cardio, free weights, and resistance equipment, noting that it has the largest selection in the Air Force. The atmosphere is that of a serious, yet versatile, sports complex, designed to cater to both intense athletes and casual exercisers alike. It even provides simple, but essential, touches like buckets of chalk for those heavy power rack sessions. The mission here is clear: to promote a healthy lifestyle and provide the best resources for fitness, including through various incentive programs and community events like fun runs and tournaments.

What is Worth Choosing
For Nebraska residents with base access, the Offutt Field House is unequivocally worth choosing because it is a comprehensive, all-in-one sports and fitness complex disguised as a gym. The facility’s size and variety are its biggest draws. Unlike smaller commercial gyms that specialize in one or two areas, the Field House allows an individual to train for a marathon on the indoor track, play a full-court basketball game, complete a CrossFit-style workout, lift heavy in the power racks, and relax in the sauna—all within the same building.
Its vast equipment floor and numerous power racks eliminate the frustrating wait times common in crowded fitness centers, making a productive workout routine feasible, especially during peak hours. The commitment to providing diverse fitness programs, from Child Development areas for parents to specialized Kickboxing and intramural sports, solidifies its role as a true community health asset.
While the facility is known to get warm in the summer due to the hangar's lack of air conditioning, this minor inconvenience is often viewed as a trade-off for the exceptional space and equipment. The ongoing commitment to hiring certified trainers and group instructors also signals a dedication to high-quality, guided fitness instruction. If you are authorized to use this resource, the sheer scale and scope of the Offutt Field House make it the ultimate choice for a complete and versatile fitness journey in Nebraska.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Huge facility with everything a sports and fitness enthusiast could desire. Nirvana for those who need a power rack without waiting. They even provide buckets of chalk! The ventilation has improved somewhat, but be prepared for major sweat session in the Summer because this hangar does NOT have air conditioning.
August 05 · Mrs BultitudeThis place is a great place to work out at. The gym is located in an old World War II hangar, so they have a lot of space to put in every possible thing that you could ever want to work out with. This monstrous gym has a indoor running/walking track, four racquetball/squash courts, two basketball courts, one volleyball court, one indoor futbol/field hockey court, a batting cage, a lap swim swimming pool, a CrossFit- esque/martial art area, two big studio fitness rooms for yoga/ cycling/ aerobics, a parent/child workout area, a rock climbing wall, and men/women locker rooms. This place has multiple strength and cardio (step, ellipticals, rowers, bikes) machines, benches, squat racks, free weights, and a small snack bar.The gym doesn't have a juice bar or any of that kind of thing unfortunately. It looks like there was a juice bar here at one time but it is long gone. There are no personal trainers but the gym is hiring certified personal trainers and group class instructors. Most of the little water station filters located around the gym are red and the filters need to be changed. The downstairs men's locker rooms need to be attended more regularly by the staff. Use the upstairs men's locker room, it is a lot cleaner. They have great incentive programs to take part in. Keep you motivated to do the best that you can. The gym has various classes ranging from jiu jitsu to yoga for a fee.The fitness director and previous fitness directors really used every space of this hangar to give you a quality workout. If you are ever at Offutt AFB, or have base access and you need a good workout, the field house is the way to go.
February 03 · Rob Carroll24 hour access to two indoor tennis courts - veterans say that back in the day there were four indoor tennis courts, but the two are still great for practice and match play!
March 15 · Jonathan HernandezIt's not bad... Not great but not too bad. Biggest thing is humidity/temp control. Especially when running on the track the air can get pretty muggy and stagnant. On the opposite end of things sometimes the giant fans are cranked up too high and at particular workout areas you'll find yourself getting blasted with wind while working out which can be distracting. Equipment selection is okay. Still probably not enough for the busy hours of the day though.Update: after losing power, 24 hour access is down so being restricted to manned hours is really crappy. I'd be more upset if I was taking a PT test soon.
July 06 · Alan McCrary (ZERO450)Great gym, lots of options, racket ball, pool, tennis, basketball, indoor soccer, track, crossfit, weight training, kids play area, cardio, boxing and fighting equipment. Some things need fixing here and there but it's huge and a great place to lift. It's only 24/7 if your get your ID in the system during staffed hours
