It is worth noting that a membership is required to use the facility, which is a standard practice for many private and university-based gyms. The atmosphere of a university fitness center is often distinct from a commercial gym, with a focus on supporting the academic and personal well-being of its members. While it provides a structured environment for exercise, it is important to be aware of the specific rules and expectations of a university-affiliated facility. The center is a part of a larger network of campus recreation facilities, which can be an advantage for members who enjoy a variety of activities. What is worth choosing
When considering a fitness center in Newark, the Sandy & John Olson Fitness Center at NJIT presents a distinct set of characteristics that make it an option worth evaluating, particularly for those with a direct connection to the university. The most notable advantage is its affiliation with a major educational institution, which can create a stable and well-maintained environment. The "membership required" policy helps to regulate the number of users, which can sometimes lead to a less crowded and more focused workout experience compared to some public gyms. However, it is also important to consider some of the drawbacks that have been noted by real customers. One significant concern raised in a review is the lack of basic hygiene supplies, such as soap and paper towels, and other maintenance issues like overflowing trash and wet floors. These issues are critical for a public health-conscious individual, as they can compromise the cleanliness of the equipment and the overall workout environment. Another point to consider is the reported lack of free weights, which may be a deal-breaker for those who prefer a strength-training routine that relies on this type of equipment. This suggests the facility might be more geared toward cardio and machine-based workouts. While the convenience of a campus location is a major plus, especially for those already on campus, these documented issues with cleanliness and equipment availability are important to weigh. For those who prioritize a well-stocked and impeccably clean facility with a full range of equipment, this gym may not be the ideal choice. However, for a user who is on campus regularly and is looking for a basic, accessible place for cardio and machine workouts and is willing to overlook some of the reported maintenance issues, it could be a practical option. The decision to join should be based on a careful consideration of these factors, ensuring the gym’s offerings and management align with your personal standards and fitness goals.

NJIT The Sandy & John Olson Fitness Center Reviews
Dear NJIT John Olsen fitness Center Management,I am writing to express my concern about the frequent lack of essential hygiene supplies in the gym facilities. On multiple occasions, I have encountered empty soap dispensers(everyday), unrefilled paper towel dispensers, and overflowing trash cans, to the point you must throw it on the floor, Wet floors, unfiltered water fountains... The list is large .The absence of these supplies makes it difficult for gym patrons to maintain proper hygiene (touching the equipment), which is especially concerning in the context of public health. I can't even clean the equipment off after I use it like at the WIC. I kindly request that the gym prioritize restocking these supplies more regularly and ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed. It's common sense, please consult with the WIC management team, they at least care about SOAP!?Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.P.s. I have pictures for proof.
