The YMCA strives to be a place where everyone feels welcome and supported, fostering a sense of belonging and community. While the institution's goals are ambitious, the on-the-ground experience can sometimes present challenges that are worth noting. Members have expressed concerns about the practicalities of a membership, such as unexpected facility closures and billing issues related to programs like swim lessons. These experiences highlight the importance of clear communication and careful management, issues that can impact a member's experience. However, the overarching goal of the YMCA remains to provide a valuable service to the community, offering a broad spectrum of activities and resources that support a healthy and active lifestyle for all.

Whether it's swimming laps in the pool, shooting hoops on the basketball court, or relaxing in the sauna after a workout, the options are plentiful. However, it is important for potential members to be aware that the availability of these amenities can be subject to change due to private rentals or unforeseen circumstances, which may not always be reflected in the online schedule. While this can be a source of frustration, it is a reality of managing a facility that serves many different groups and needs. The YMCA encourages members to call ahead to confirm schedules, a practice that, while an extra step, can help avoid disappointment. Despite these potential logistical challenges, the core offerings are robust and are designed to provide a well-rounded fitness experience. The organization's mission extends beyond just physical fitness to include community support and youth development, which means that your membership contributes to a larger cause. The facilities are generally well-maintained, and the staff, while sometimes needing to enforce rules for the greater good of the community, are ultimately there to ensure a safe and organized environment. The sense of belonging and the wide variety of activities still make it a popular choice for many families in the Canton area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We are extremely disappointed with our experience with the summer swim lessons. We were overcharged—paying a total of $396 for two children—but only received 8 out of the 12 scheduled lessons. Despite this, we were still charged $330, when the actual cost for the 8 lessons we received should have been $264 (2 kids × $16.50 per lesson × 8 lessons). To make matters worse, the director was unable to accurately calculate the refund, and I had to fight just to receive a partial reimbursement for the canceled August sessions.Beyond the billing issues, the class sizes were far too large. My children spent most of the 30-minute sessions waiting for their turn and were in the water for maybe 3–4 minutes each lesson. While the instructors themselves were great when they were working with the kids, the overcrowded format meant very limited time for actual instruction. This was not worth the cost—especially considering we paid for lessons we never received. Very disappointing that the Y is keeping the extra money for services that were not rendered.
August 04 · Annie FranksI have now been kicked out of the swimming pool the last two times I went in to swim this past week. The first time a child threw up in the pool. I can understand that but today I was kicked after swimming 4 laps. I was informed that a church group had rented the pool and was told "they paid for it". Well, I pay a membership fee to use the facilities, and I am not getting to use it as I want. This also happened about a year and half ago with a scuba club. Both times there was no mention of the pool closure in the online schedule posting. When I mentioned this during the scuba club I was told I should have called. Excuse me? Why don't you email your daily schedule to me every morning then! What is the use of posting your schedule online when it is not correct, I am paying the YMCA for the use of the facility, not for you to create more hoops for me to jump through. Is the YMCA going reimburse me for the gas I wasted driving there today? No. So why am I paying for something that is not giving me what I paid for?
April 13 · pj3771We used the YMCA for our local church youth group get together, after hours! The staff was very accommodating and the facility was perfect! Nice volleyball and basketball courts, and a perfect place to serve and eat food right close to the gymnasium. We will definitely use this facility for future events!Shawn Wise, the Executive Director, was great to work with in coordinating the logistics around the use of the Y!Thank you for a great experience, and for helping us reach out to our community as we witness for Christ!
February 15 · Trevor TroyerNever too busy. Hot tub is one of the hottest in the area, although it's a little foamy. Great pool, basketball courts, and newer workout area.
August 16 · Darryl GuentherHorrible customer service! If Sandy or Jasmine is not working these people are never knowledgeable of their own Job none of them make sense and always contradicting themselves and have no idea how to explain anything older lady at that front desk just literally said I don't know when we're gonna have anything they have it when they want she needs to find another hobby then they will tag team together to cover up their mistakes .Very disturbing Very weird people I would find a very more pleasurable place to go then here to careless employees.
