August 07 · N. GI trained at this gym for two days with Bambi. All I can say is all my muscles hurt the way it should at first. The environment was comfortable and friendly. Folks actually watch to make sure your doing it right. Bambi observed my exercises and let me know what to fix when needed. He is a positive coach with many years of experience and a good demeanor for teaching. Cheer to Bambi and Menendez Boxing school.
May 21 · Gerald PiI purchased a course and have been going regularly since, I've even started bringing my wife and have recommended it to friends and family. The trainers do a great job on teaching fundamentals and conditioning. The patrons are friendly and encourage each other. The gym itself is well maintained and tidy.
February 23 · Patrick ReillyI went to Mendez boxing for the first time tonight. This is the third boxing gym I’ve tried in Harlem and definitely my least favorite. The “trainer” barely pays you any attention and doesn’t give you any feedback, just random combos they don’t walk you through. There’s no structure to the class, it’s up to you to make the most of it. I regret getting the Groupon but plan on going back to finish using it. Going to try and go at a different time of day to see if I get a better trainer. Will update my review if my experience improves! Also, I called beforehand and spoke with a guy, and when I arrived I met a different woman. Both people were extremely nice so 2 stars for the kind front desk folks.
September 18 · Kaylyn WI am very disappointed with the second trainer I was given at this boxing club. The experience was extremely unorganized. I purchased a bundle for several classes. My first class on Sunday was decent; I spent ten minutes punching the bag and the rest of the time running around the ring. Despite being busy, the trainer was attentive to everyone, mixing experienced fighters and newbies effectively. However, my experience with the Tuesday (late afternoon) trainer, “JOJO a.k.a Anthony,” was terrible. He criticized my form, even though I had no prior training and had only attended one class. It was clear that the trainers do not follow a consistent system, as this trainer was all over the place. His instructions were extremely confusing. Although my leading hand is right, he insisted I use my left as the lead, which caused great confusion when attempting to jab and move.He would demonstrate a technique and then leave me to figure it out on my own while he attended to others or chatted with people. At the end of the lesson, he insensitively told me my “form was horrible.” This was incredibly frustrating, especially since I had informed him that he was moving too fast and that I needed step-by-step instructions to build muscle memory. His lack of patience and poor teaching style made the session a horrible experience. I have more classes left, but I am considering letting them go to waste.
