Maine Academy of Gymnastics Introduce
Welcome to Maine Academy of Gymnastics (MAG), a premier sports complex and gymnastics center located in Westbrook, Maine. For over two decades, MAG has been a cornerstone of the community, dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for children and young adults to explore the world of gymnastics. This facility is more than just a gym; it’s a place where children from across the state come to learn, grow, and develop not only their physical skills but also their confidence, discipline, and self-esteem. This article will provide you with a detailed and factual look into what makes Maine Academy of Gymnastics a top destination for families in the Maine region.
The philosophy at MAG is that the sport of gymnastics is beneficial for all children, regardless of their skill level or aspirations. The academy’s curriculum is designed to instill a love for being fit and healthy from a young age, teaching children how to control their bodies through movement. This positive state of mind encourages each student to challenge themselves and discover their potential. While some students go on to join the prestigious competitive teams, like the American Flyers, many more participate in the recreational programs and still reap the immense benefits of the sport.
The team at Maine Academy of Gymnastics is composed of professional and safety-certified staff who are committed to providing the best in gymnastics instruction. They continually participate in clinics and workshops to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and safety protocols. This dedication to professional development ensures that every child receives high-quality coaching in a secure setting. The welcoming atmosphere is a point of pride for the academy, where a positive and well-managed environment is a top priority for staff and management.
While the vast majority of feedback is positive, some reviews note that parents should be aware of the teaching approach to ensure it aligns with their child's needs, particularly for very young age groups. For instance, a review mentioned a potential disconnect between the program's developmental appropriateness and the expectations for a two-year-old class, as well as a parent's discomfort with a coach's physical contact. The academy’s response to such feedback, combined with its stated philosophy, suggests a place that is committed to working with families and continuously improving. It's always recommended that parents communicate their preferences to the staff to ensure a positive experience for their child.
With a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities, a state-of-the-art facility, and a focus on both recreational enjoyment and competitive excellence, Maine Academy of Gymnastics is a valuable asset to the Westbrook community and beyond. Maine Academy of Gymnastics Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My son had his first class today and it was incredible. Coach Paul is so friendly and personable. My son does not warm up to new people easily and halfway through the class was running up to coach Paul to say “I did it!” Everything was really well ran and there was space for my son to explore and get comfortable with no pressure. I was shocked how much he participated right away considering he typically likes to watch for a while before joining in on things. So excited for what the future holds.
September 14 · Laura AllanWasn’t a good fit for my daughter. The class required things that were not developmentally appropriate for a 2 year old. The coach also came up and picked up my daughter a few times without her permission. I really try to teach my daughter that her body is not for others to touch without permission and it made me a bit uncomfortable. I also felt like there was a push towards training toddlers to be future professional gymnasts instead of just embracing letting them have fun and move their bodies. It was not what I was looking for in a 2 year old gymnastics class.
October 29 · Amanda KittridgeMy two year old daughter looks forward to coming to Gymnastics every week. Coach Paul is amazing with the kids, very energetic, funny, extremely patient (which is amazing quality to have while working with toddlers) and all around a great person. It takes my daughter a while to warm up to new people . She's extremely shy but she loves Coach Paul and constantly wants to work with him. I have no complaints!
April 19 · Ashley TondreauOur experience started out great, my son is 4 and has autism and he’s non verbal. I explained all this to them when we started and the coaches were very accommodating allowing myself and my husband to be involved in the sessions as to help with communication and getting a routine for him.Going into summer classes we signed my son up for the smallest class which was only 2 students and he happens to be the only one there so he did great with the coach. Half way thru a new coach came so I explained a few things and she was fine with me being involved when needed. When we went down to next part of class in the main gym another coach abruptly and very rudely started parents were not allowed in gym. I explained the situation and she said for me to show his coach how to communicate which we were already doing. After that mason jumped into foam pit, he’s 4 who wouldn’t? And she rudely said to his coach take him upstairs! Her behavior was disgusting and unprofessional and that situation could have easily been handled differently.I gave 3 stars due to the fact that the other coach’s were amazing and when I spoke with main office they contacted the owner who then gave me a refund and said they would speak to the coach. Unfortunately one bad apple has the ability to ruin it and she is a terrible model of how a coach should interact with students or parents!
July 14 · Sarah GrenierMy daughter loves coming to her Second Flight gymnastics class each week! She found her brave at gymnastics. We are so pleased with what she is learning and how much fun she has. Looking forward to having her birthday party at Maine Academy!!
