★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This gym is less than ideal. Though it’s clean enough, the upkeep in general is lacking. Machines sport plenty of duct tape, out of order signs and cracked plastic panels. In the upper weight room, patrons on the weight machines tend to plant themselves and stare at their phones. There seems to be no in-gym supervision. The amenities in the locker room are less than ideal, the showers and the steam rooms sport debris, hair and paper towels on the floors and clogging the drains. Cracked tiles and stained wood make for an unpleasant experience. It’s absolutely a functioning place to work out, but at the price point there are dozens of other gyms that pay more attention to the experience and enjoyment of its patrons. My initial sign on included a Peloton membership initially, this has since been rescinded.
July 28 · Tyler WilsonDisappointing Membership Policy – Lack of TransparencyI signed up for a membership at YMCA Irving Park on June 30th. That same day, $53 was charged to my card. Then, on July 1st, another $100 was charged for the July membership. While I understand and accept the charge for July, I find it unfair and disappointing that I was also charged $53 for just one single day—June 30th—especially considering I didn’t even use any of the facilities that day. It’s frustrating that this policy wasn’t clearly communicated when I signed up. Why aren’t front desk staff informing new members that they will be charged for the a portion month, even if they join on the last day? Basically, I was charged for a portion of June, even though I became a member at the very end of the month. This lack of transparency left a bad first impression. I hope YMCA considers improving how they explain billing practices to avoid similar disappointments for others.
July 02 · MihaElla NiculaOnly hit the weight room this morning. Well maintained facility with a good variety of machines and quite a few squat racks. Dumbbells up to 100 pounds. They call it the "Bears Den" and it's full of Bear's memorabilia.
November 04 · Troy DavidhizerI’m only speaking regarding the summer day camp. I have seen the facilities and it’s typical YMCA, showing some age and some updates as well. It is kept very clean despite the age of the facility. The room where the summer camp enters and does some of the activities is very messy and unorganized. Not to where it’s hazardous, it’s more of the aesthetic but it can feel overwhelming to some kids with sensory issues. The staff are very nice and accommodating. My son feels more at home here than he does at his school as there is a lot more diversity. It’s great that he can be somewhere all day and not feel like an outsider because of his skin color. The program is good and there is variety during the week. I realize the Y doesn’t have the same resources as some other institutions, so I don’t expect more than I should. I do find it a bit concerning that the facility also has housing for male transients. The entrance is separate, but you always get some of the residents who break rules and do things like smoke outside and curse up a storm when the kids are letting out for the day.
February 27 · Roger MasaThis is a lovely, all purpose facility, where my family can enjoy a lot of the amenities. They have multiple basketball courts, a great workout center, childcare for us, parents with young kids, and a swimming pool downstairs. This is an older building, but I am so glad I have joined.
