The owner, Zach, is not just an operator but a highly knowledgeable and dedicated coach. As noted in customer reviews, he is "extremely welcoming and a great coach," known for providing "really good cues and explanations of how to do the movements." This level of individualized attention, which is a significant advantage of a smaller gym, ensures that you learn technique safely and effectively. The gym is a positive and friendly environment, where members are genuinely supportive of one another. One reviewer highlighted this by stating, "I also appreciate how positive and friendly the other people in the gym are." This camaraderie is a direct result of the owner-run model, where the atmosphere is built on trust and a shared passion for strength sports. It's the kind of place where you can ask for help, get a spot, and feel like you're part of a team, even if you are an independent lifter. This supportive culture is invaluable and helps to keep members motivated and committed to their goals. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Signed up for the intro to barbell lifting class on a bit of a short notice whim after seeing a reddit post mention the gym (didn't even know it was there). Zach is extremely welcoming and a great coach; he gives really good cues and explanations of how to to do the movements. I also appreciate how positive and friendly the other people in the gym are. I'm skeptical of apps, but the app makes it very easy to schedule classes compared to some other gym apps I've seen.A few notes on the gym:1) it's a specialized gym and the equipment reflects that. Still, Zach has a range of equipment for everyone, and there is something for you, even if you are just getting started on strength training.2) it's a small gym, however it feels like there is everything that's needed, and Zach has been expanding the equipment over time. The layout is good, as I've been in there with quite a few other people and everyone had space for what they were doing. On the other hand, a positive aspect of the size is that you get more individualized attention from Zach in classes!3) it's a converted garage. This means there is no AC (but big industrial fans) and no water fountain (but a sink and Zach usually has some water around). I recommend bringing your own water bottle and a gym towel, especially in the summer. There are also strong florescent lights up, but Zach covered them to make it less hard on the eyes, which I really appreciate. While there are no lockers, there is a coat rack and some shelves where you can drop your things, and a small bathroom.4) it's an owner-run gym. This means occasionally the gym is closed for a few days if Zach is competing somewhere (or I imagine if he got very sick or something like that), but it doesn't seem like a major consideration or concern for me.
