For New Yorkers in search of a new gym, Harbor Fitness on Kings Highway is worth considering for its strong community and exceptional staff. While some of the issues raised in reviews, such as member etiquette and parking, are valid points, they are often common challenges in urban gyms. The gym's primary strength lies in its people—both the staff and the positive community they have cultivated. The fact that a staff member like Nikita is a "main reason" for a member's loyalty speaks volumes about the gym's culture. In a city where gyms can often feel impersonal, this focus on personal connection and support is a significant benefit.
The gym's value proposition is centered around its atmosphere and amenities. For those who prioritize a clean space, a friendly staff, and the convenience of a sauna and smoothie bar, Harbor Fitness offers a fantastic experience. While the equipment selection and membership fees may not appeal to everyone, the quality of the staff and the welcoming environment can make all the difference in staying motivated and consistent with your fitness routine. It’s a place that feels like a home away from home, a supportive environment where you can truly focus on your health and well-being. For many New Yorkers, that kind of experience is priceless.

August 16 · Ryan GuerreroI was a member of this gym for a few years, first at the Nostrand Avenue location, then at this newer branch once it opened. The staff has consistently been polite and friendly, always greeting members as they come and go, which I appreciated. The juice/smoothie bar is also a nice touch, offering a wide range of options, including snacks, at fair prices. However, there are several issues that took away from the overall experience. One of the biggest problems is the lack of enforced gym etiquette among members, especially the younger crowd. Dumbbells are often left scattered or put back in the wrong slots, which forces others to reshuffle equipment just to return theirs properly. During peak hours (roughly 5:30–8:00 PM), it gets particularly frustrating as groups of younger members tend to treat the gym like a hangout spot. Machines are often occupied for extended periods with minimal actual use, which can turn a 60–75 minute workout into a two-hour ordeal. All of the machines are Hammer Strength brand, which are decent, but for the $75/month membership fee (about $900/year, not including additional fees), I expected a higher standard in terms of equipment variety, space management, and member accountability. There are other gyms in the area with better setups and lower prices. The referral program is also disappointing. I’ve referred multiple people and only received $10 for each, far less than other gyms that offer a free month per referral. Considering each referred member is potentially worth nearly $1,000 annually to the gym, $10 feels like an insignificant return.Lastly, parking is a challenge. There’s no dedicated parking lot, and it’s not uncommon to spend up to 20 minutes circling the block trying to find a spot.Overall, while the staff is great and some amenities are appreciated, the gym falls short in key areas like member behavior, value for money, and accessibility. It could be much better with stronger policies, better incentives, and more consideration for the member experience.
August 14 · Simon RozenfeldExcellent fitness center; places and density of visits are normal so far; I visit during the most active time and I like everything so far, I have experience comparing with other fitness centers; well done, keep up the level, don't relax. Good luck to the whole team!))
March 06 · Aleksandr MishchukThe best gym in Brooklyn!Clean! Smalls great! Front desk is super friendly!Huge! Join! Treat yourself
August 08 · Lesya KhovanOne of the best gyms that I’ve ever used, which is saying a lot after 20 years of going to gyms around the world. It’s well designed, staff is pleasant, the space is clean and the music is by far the best selections (it’s not uncommon to hear Chevelle, Deftones, etc.) Most workouts I don’t even wear headphones. And lastly, the sauna is terrific. 👌🏼👌🏼
