What is worth choosing
For residents of Central Vermont, Green Mountain Community Fitness is worth choosing for several key reasons that go beyond the standard gym experience. The most compelling factor is its deep-rooted commitment to being a true community center. It’s a place where you don’t just work out alone; you become part of a supportive network of friendly people who encourage one another. As one reviewer eloquently put it, "It’s more than a gym; it’s a place where you belong." This sense of belonging is fostered by the incredible staff, who are not just knowledgeable but also genuinely kind and welcoming, creating a positive vibe that makes you want to return day after day.
The breadth and quality of the facilities are another significant draw. The newly renovated aquatics department, in particular, has received glowing praise. The cleanliness and modern feel of the pool, along with the expert guidance from swim coaches, make it a premier destination for aquatic fitness in the area. The availability of other amenities like a basketball court, sauna, and dedicated studios for classes ensures that you can always find a new way to challenge yourself, preventing boredom and encouraging consistency. The week-long passes at a great price also provide an excellent way to try out the facilities without a long-term commitment.
Finally, the inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere makes GMCF a rare gem. As a women-owned business that is an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, the center actively promotes diversity and acceptance. This is a powerful statement that makes the facility a safe haven for all. For parents, the fact that GMCF is "good for kids" and offers youth-oriented programs is a major benefit. It provides a way for the entire family to prioritize health and wellness together, in an environment that is both fun and encouraging. July 17 · Carlos MagallanesGreen Mountain Community Fitness (GMCF) in Berlin, Vermont, is hands-down one of the best places I’ve ever been to for staying active—and I don’t say that lightly. After years away from the pool since my high school swimming days, I finally got back in the water and rediscovered my love for swimming. GMCF made that journey not just possible, but truly enjoyable.Let’s start with the aquatics department—it’s phenomenal. Over the past few years, the team has poured so much hard work into transforming it into something super special. The pool is modern, clean, and inviting, a testament to what they’ve accomplished on a tight budget. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just dipping your toes back in like me, this is a space where you can thrive. The staff? Absolute rockstars. They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to lend a hand—whether it’s refining your stroke or just making you feel at ease. It’s clear they love what they do, and it shows. As a parent to a 56-week-old and a 3½-year-old preschooler, I can’t tell you how much it means to find a place that’s perfect for families. GMCF isn’t just for adults—it’s built for all ages. The programs and facilities make it easy for kids to get active, and I’m already counting the days until I can bring mine here full-time when they’re a bit older. It’s such a relief to know they’ll grow up in a space that’s not only fun but surrounded by positivity and encouragement.Speaking of positivity, the staff and other patrons are incredible. Everyone I’ve met here—whether it’s someone sharing a lane or offering a quick “nice job!”—is friendly and supportive. It’s the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to come back day after day. The staff go above and beyond to ensure you feel welcome, and the other members make it feel like a real community. It’s more than a gym; it’s a place where you belong. What really seals the deal for me is GMCF’s inclusive nature. This isn’t just a fitness center—it’s a place that celebrates everyone. From the visible support for the LGBTQIA+ community to the Black Lives Matter signs and more, it’s clear that diversity is a priority here. It feels like a space where all people are not just accepted but embraced. That’s something I’m proud to be a part of, and it makes every swim feel even more meaningful.GMCF has done so much with what they have, and the results speak for themselves. The facilities are top-notch, the people are amazing, and the vibe is unbeatable. I can’t say enough good things about this place—it’s where I’ve rediscovered my passion for swimming, and it’s where I can’t wait to bring my kids to share in the fun. If you’re looking for a fitness center that’s welcoming, family-friendly, and genuinely special, Green Mountain Community Fitness is it.
March 06 · Oliver AmesGMCF is a great gym with a real community feel. I value their commitment to making fitness accessible to the community as well as creating a safe and welcoming space for all. They offer a great variety of group classes, along with well-equipped workout spaces for individual training. The instructors and trainers I’ve worked with are kind, knowledgeable and engaging and I look forward to my classes.
December 27 · Kylee ZGMCF holds true to their name. This is not an average gym, it is a community where you can come and be a part of something special. The Fit4Life Class is my favorite because I can go at my pace and strengths. The trainers are friendly, encouraging and always helpful. Great equipment and wow the transformation of this building has been amazing and a joy to watch.
January 21 · Bonnie HartI love this gym so much. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The classes are varied and there is something for anyone’s level of fitness. The fit4life is perfect for me at my age (62) because it challenges me but doesn’t make me feel discouraged. The instructor Sara (Fridays) is a wonderful coach who is always cheerful and motivational and very attentive. The lounge is a great feature for hanging out after or before work outs and the coffee station is a huge plus. They also have a catering service that provides meals regularly that you can diy purchase. This gym has EVERYTHING.I see people complaining about the mold on the shower curtains and on the bathroom tile. All I can say is that it is an old building that is constantly being improved. I can also add that some people love to complain and that is too bad. It is a gym, not an operating room. Give them a break and instead of hate, appreciate.
