September 01 · Alec PanayotovTwo stars because the classes/instructors are great and it’s a good location. Communication from management is truly poor and frustrating. Unsure why they don’t email members regarding when they’re doing upgrades or have outages. For example, the AC was out today resulting in a temp of 81, no email or even mention when I walked in. While leaving I mentioned to a team member that it would be super helpful if they communicated when there were outages via email so that people could better plan/prepare for their workouts. The team member shrugged and said they would eventually be fixing it. For almost $300 a month, I would think they could send out a heads up email! Some equipment is outdated (primarily machines on the mezzanine level and the overall vibes), but I have seen some newer equipment (several new stairmasters). One other frustration is that there are only bathrooms on the 3rd floor in the locker rooms which can be a hike from the workout areas. Also, the recovery lounge has changing hours and from what I can tell is not open after 5ishpm on any Friday. Overall, pretty mid gym.
June 29 · Leah DI have been a member of FFC Oak Park since the day it opened in 2007. Has been a great experience, as I feel it provides the value for the price charged. My son also started going to FFC for basketball camps (Kids Hoopers) with coach Erik since June 2023. He enjoys the sessions, and has developed his basketball skills and learning to push himself to do better. Coach Erik expects that the kids puts in the effort, which I as a parent also expect. I am there for every session my son has been there since June 2023, and really like how he makes the learning fun and yet develops them into young men and women. The general manager, Jeff Long, has done a tremendous job keeping FFC Oak Park a health facility that people of all ages and background want to call their gym.
June 24 · Mahboob HussainI really hate it came to this, but my grandchild can NEVER come home crying from anywhere and I not react, especially not an alleged sports camp. Not to mention, the elders in my family always said to be careful of places who use "No refunds" as a disclaimer.Stay away from the Hooper's Camp. It's way too intense, and the coach expects perfection all the time, or "effort" as he puts it, and picks and chooses when to say that the effort isn't enough, so as not to waste the customer's time or money. I now get why there were very few other kids participating in this camp during the time that my grandchild was there. Although there was plenty of arguments to the contrary, there was no genuine understanding of the fact that kids simply are not the same, and it's actually a form of microaggression to compare kids in sports or in general because they're not performing exactly as directed, or like other kids may be. So unless your child is perfect and doesn't have an "attitude" (as if kids ALWAYS ARE AND NEVER DO), or they're training for the Olympics, stay away from this camp. Your child may wind up in tears, scarred from an experience that was supposed to fun. Not boot camp. It's against every rule to send a child home early from ANYWHERE, be it school or camp, without informing the parent/grandparent/ guardian FIRST, for that child's safety. Point blank, period. This would have been a whole other conversation had my grandchild's safety been compromised by being discharged from camp before the expected time.Regardless of whatever personal feelings you may have, stay in your lane. Child psychologist and basketball coach are mutually exclusive.
July 02 · FavoredTo be basically 200 a month, they don’t have great equipment. That’s not saying the machines aren’t great they are fine. Of course commercial gyms will focus on cardio equipment vs strength. To not even have the same brand of plates, designated Olympic bars, and more platforms is insane. And let’s be honest FFC is money grabbing. 125 to sign up? Crazy but what’s even crazier is if you want to add a household member later on you STILL have to pay their sign up fee. You’re paying for location as well. I still prefer this gym because its close and is better than other gyms I’ve toured and crazy enough if you want a gym that isn’t planet fitness or CrossFit/HYROX or a random garage someone bought and turned it into a workout factory this gym isn’t terrible.
