DAYA Foundation Introduce
For residents of Oregon looking for more than just a place to practice yoga, DAYA Foundation offers a deeply meaningful and impactful experience. This isn't your typical yoga studio; it's a unique non-profit organization with a powerful mission: to provide "Delivering Accessible Yoga Alternatives" (DAYA) to everyone, especially those who may not otherwise have access. Located in Portland, the foundation has created a vibrant and compassionate community that has been described by members as a place that feels like "home." This feeling is a direct result of the organization's commitment to inclusivity and its focus on using yoga as a tool for personal growth, community building, and social justice.
The foundation's approach is rooted in the belief that yoga is a fundamental life skill that can transform mental and physical health. By making these tools accessible, DAYA aims to empower individuals to become better versions of themselves and to make a positive difference in the world. Their work extends far beyond the studio walls, with a strong emphasis on outreach programs for marginalized and underserved populations. This dedication to service is what truly sets DAYA Foundation apart. When you take a class here, you are not only investing in your own well-being but also contributing to a larger mission of healing and social change. The founder, Sarahjoy Marsh, has been instrumental in leading this vision, bringing her extensive experience in yoga, therapy, and social justice to the forefront of the organization.
DAYA Foundation's mission is brought to life by a team of experienced and compassionate teachers. As one long-time student and new teacher attested, "The teachers are a big part of what has kept me coming back for years." This speaks to the high quality of instruction and the genuine care that the instructors bring to every class. The studio is a place where people of all genders, backgrounds, medical histories, body types, and abilities are not only welcomed but celebrated. This inclusive atmosphere creates a safe and supportive space where everyone can explore the transformative power of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. It is a true community hub where self-inquiry and collective healing go hand-in-hand, making it an exceptional place for anyone in Oregon seeking to deepen their practice.
The DAYA Foundation is conveniently located at 4416 SW Lobelia St, Portland, OR 97219, USA. Situated in a tranquil area of Southwest Portland, it provides a peaceful escape from the bustling city. The location is easily accessible for residents of neighborhoods like Multnomah Village and Hillsdale, as well as those traveling from other parts of the city. While it is located on a smaller street, the proximity to major roads and public transit options makes it a viable option for a wide range of commuters.
For those driving, street parking is available in the vicinity. The neighborhood offers a calm environment, which is conducive to the mindful practice of yoga. For individuals who rely on public transportation, there are bus lines that serve the area, allowing for convenient access to the studio. The foundation’s focus on accessibility extends to its physical space as well, ensuring that it is a welcoming place for all. A key part of the mission is to remove barriers to yoga, and this starts with having a space that is reachable for members of the community.
The location itself is a highlight. Being slightly removed from the downtown core allows for a serene and focused environment, which is ideal for a practice that emphasizes peace and introspection. This setting allows students to fully immerse themselves in their sessions, leaving the stresses of daily life behind as they step onto their mats. The combination of a peaceful location and thoughtful accessibility ensures that the studio is not only a physical destination but a sanctuary for its members.

DAYA Foundation Reviews
The very first time I walked in the doors, I knew I would be back. Everything about the studio says welcome home to me.I feel like I would need to write 100 reviews to say all the great things I want to say about thus organization, from the work the founder does to bring yoga to people in prison, to the adaptive yoga classes, to the teacher trainings, there's a lot to love. But what has kept me coming back is the teachers. Start with an Amrita class with Sarahjoy, a Bo Yoga class with Nate, and a restorative class with Heather Smith. Your body, heart, mind, and soul will thank you!(Full disclosure: I'm a brand new teacher here, but I've been coming for years as a student, so I feel I can speak with authority on this wonderful place with these wonderful people!)
September 21 · Heather II have been a student here for a little over 5 years. It's my favorite studio to practice yoga in. The yoga classes are wonderful and the dharma talks and teacher trainings are also offerings that I enjoy and highly recommend. This studio is also a welcoming and comfortable place for people of all genders, backgrounds, medical histories, body types, and abilities.
June 16 · Molly HitchenDaya is a wonderful center full of wonderful people. Sure, it is a bit expensive, but unfortunately that is the case for all Yoga studios in the Portland area and Daya is actually less expensive for monthly passes than other studios in the area that I’ve looked at. Daya has great classes, wonderful instructors, excellent assistive devices, and an atmosphere that welcomes all people from all walks of life with all abilities. I would highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in either starting or continuing a yoga practice. I’m so glad I found this place, it is exactly what my mind and body needed.
July 16 · Brian HannahWonderful uplifting atmosphere! With a variety of caring yoga instructors specializing in various yoga and meditation styles of teachings. I have personally experienced five instructors and LoVed every class!Highly recommend you visit Daya Foundation and enjoy the wonderful uplifting experience for personal fulfillment!Daya also offers a $30 2 week unlimited yoga pass!!~ Enjoy Another Glorious DAY ~
December 18 · Empiri CismHighly unsafe, unwelcoming place to practice yoga. The organization claims to be social justice oriented, yet 2 of the 3 teachers running the “trauma-informed” yoga teacher training are extremely racist and bigoted. To make a long story short, I found this out because one of the teachers has "Make America Great Again" tattooed on them in Sanskrit. For obvious reasons, I would not recommend to POC, queer, trans, and/or disabled folks.
