Costello Sports Complex Introduce
For residents of Gorham, Maine, and the surrounding communities, the Costello Sports Complex offers a substantial resource for athletic and recreational activities. As a facility on the University of Southern Maine (USM) campus, it is a state-of-the-art center designed to meet the needs of both the university community and the general public. This is not just a standard gym; it is a multi-purpose sports complex with a variety of courts and a large field house, providing a diverse range of options for fitness and sports enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
The philosophy behind the Costello Sports Complex is to be a community hub for wellness and athletics. The facility has invested in new equipment and has undergone renovations to better serve its patrons. The goal is to provide a comprehensive space for both individual workouts and team sports. The complex has made a concerted effort to welcome the community, with a variety of membership options and programs available to non-students and non-staff members. This inclusive approach makes it a valuable asset for anyone in the Maine region looking for a place to get active.
The facility's unique position as a university sports complex means it is equipped with high-quality athletic spaces that many commercial gyms lack. The multi-purpose track and courts, for instance, offer opportunities for a range of sports from basketball and volleyball to indoor soccer and floor hockey. While some past feedback has highlighted specific issues with customer service and communication regarding hours and fees, the general consensus is that the facilities themselves are well-maintained and the employees are friendly. It is a place with a lot of potential to support the athletic pursuits of the Gorham community.
The Costello Sports Complex is located on the USM Gorham Campus at Campus Ave, Gorham, ME 04038. Its location within a university campus means it is easily accessible to students and faculty, and for the general public, it is a well-known landmark in the area. Its proximity to major roads makes it a convenient option for residents of Gorham and neighboring towns who are looking for a nearby place to exercise and play sports.
The complex has a dedicated parking area, and it is important for prospective members to be aware of the parking policies. While parking is available, some past feedback suggests a recent shift to paid parking that requires a smartphone, so it is recommended to confirm this information before your visit. The complex also prioritizes accessibility, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom, making it a welcoming facility for all members of the community.
The building is a large, multi-faceted structure that accommodates a variety of athletic activities. The layout is designed for functionality, providing separate areas for the fitness center, multi-purpose courts, and the indoor track. The presence of restrooms and Wi-Fi further adds to the convenience for members during their visits. The location itself is within a professional, campus-based setting, providing a focused environment for physical activity.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Facilities are nice enough - the track and field house doesn't have enough seating, so heads up - consider bringing a chair.Relatively recently they started charging for parking - a smart phone is required.
May 07 · Joshua RainesPaid 120+ for a 3 month membership, while signing up I was not informed that the hours would be changing the next day and they'd begin closing on Sundays (hours which have been very hard to work around with my job)Sat around outside the gym for 2 hours on the first Sunday before I found out they were no longer open, emailed and called the staff asking for a refund several times and was never responded to, so figured I'd at least try and get my money's worth. Have walked there on more than one occasion to find them closed for some obscure reason.Save your money and go to planet fitness, half the price and they're open 24 hours with a lot more options (tanning, massage and hydrotherapy beds) than this place.Or even 24 hour fitness behind hannaford for the same price but 24 hour access.Besides that, it's a nice facility and the employees are nice, I just could not in good faith recommend them to anyone for the reasons listed above.
June 19 · Cory LadwigRink was good. Spectators were allowed and are required to wear masks. Food stands were not open.
December 04 · Michelle CloutierThank you everyone. See you in November
April 17 · Shadow Design Collective (Michelle)The upstairs bathrooms aren't kept clean, and the track and fitness rooms look outdated and under swept.Much of the general public that do use this gym find it difficult to get a membership or a day pass properly. On top of this, the waiver system is messy, and it forces the customers to redo any paperwork that wasn't properly put into Costello's computer system the first time.
