Choosing Common Ground Pilates - West Adams Studio means investing in more than just a workout; it means joining a supportive community committed to your holistic well-being. What truly sets this studio apart is its unwavering dedication to creating a genuinely inclusive environment. In a city as large and diverse as Los Angeles, finding a fitness space that actively identifies as a Black-owned, women-owned, LGBTQ+ friendly, and Transgender safe space, while also offering physical accessibility, is a significant draw for the modern, conscious California consumer. This commitment translates into a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere that empowers you to focus on your body's specific needs without the pressure or intimidation often found elsewhere.
The quality of instruction is another compelling reason to choose this studio. The small class size—maxing out at eight students for reformer classes—is a commitment to personalized instruction, ensuring you receive the necessary hands-on guidance, modifications, and corrections to get the most effective and safest workout possible. September 18 · JOVANNI SOTOI absolutely love this establishment every time I attend a class I feel well balanced, relaxed, and most importantly I feel as though I had a great workout. The place is clean the people are attentive and friendly the instructors are very helpful would highly recommend this studio to anyone interested in Pilates or a different form of workout out alternative to weight training.
September 11 · Katherine EasonCandace is the best. Feel very welcome here always, and supported. I came here to work on strengthening overall. While I was new to Pilates, I realized I could do this with the guidance of the instructor and could choose the level in which I felt comfortable starting. The other people in class, whether new or returning, are always a good group because like me, they also seem to enjoy going here. Love this place
September 13 · Jess StoneI was so excited about this studio, but after multiple backhanded comments and rude behavior from the owner, I no longer wish to be a member here and feel compelled to share my experience and update my review.**DISCLAIMER:** This review will likely contrast with the overwhelming positive reviews. That’s because you, too, can get a free pair of Pilates socks if you show proof that you wrote a positive Google review for this business.West Adams Pilates is located in Crenshaw but is named "West Adams" Pilates. None of the studios are actually located in West Adams, but hey… gentrification.Today, the class was taught by Lulu, the owner, who prefers to remain anonymous when responding to any emails or messages. It seems that shortly after writing my positive review for this studio, I began to experience unnecessary backhanded comments and a nasty attitude from Lulu. She would constantly make remarks such as, "Are you hungover?" or "Why does your face look like that?" I tried to ignore it and adopt a "kill her with kindness" approach or laugh it off, as I wasn’t sure where this rude behavior was coming from.Time and time again, I’d hear her publicly complaining about her interactions with different customers while teaching the class. Although I found it awkward and unprofessional, I thought to myself, "Don’t get on her bad side, or you’ll be ostracized."Today, I had enough. We were 30 minutes into the class, and I was sweating profusely. I realized the class was packed, the air conditioning wasn’t on, the fans weren’t on, and the door was closed. A simple request to turn on the air conditioner was met with a sarcastic response from Lulu: "This is hot Pilates," followed by a refusal to turn on the air, muttering that "the class was almost over." The class was not “Hot Pilates”, it was a regular Mixed Level 1&2 Class. Realizing there were still 20 minutes left in the 50-minute class, I complained again, saying, “Hey, it’s really hot in here.” Lulu begrudgingly turned on a fan on the opposite side of the room, which was directed at the ceiling. A few minutes later, I was still feeling overwhelmingly hot, so I tried to prop the door open (something I’d seen other members do in other classes). Lulu said, "You can’t prop the door open because my dogs will run out." I replied, "Oh, I forgot about the dogs." Now, realizing that I— a customer paying an egregious $395/month—must lie on my reformer in a puddle of sweat because her dogs take priority.A few minutes later, I felt like I was going to pass out. I said, "Lulu, I can’t feel the fan at all." She rolled her eyes, sucked her teeth, and plugged in the fan on the side of the room I was on, which was also facing the ceiling. I laid on my reformer for a few minutes, and when the dizziness passed, I immediately got up and stormed out.Shortly after, I received a message from Lulu, completely falsifying the sequence of events and offering me a refund for my membership. It’s incredulous that my experience with this studio went from amazing to atrociously unprofessional. Throughout the past five months as a member, I grew more and more uncomfortable with the unprofessional behavior Lulu exhibited. I now recognize she is a dilettante business owner, lacking customer service skills and an appreciation for her members.I will miss the incredible instructors—my absolute favorites were Mecca and Candace. They were always kind, professional, and friendly.I’m looking forward to my new membership at a nearby commercial Pilates studio (IYKYK), which will be opening in Baldwin Hills at the end of May and is significantly cheaper.*Please read between the lines in the owners response and ask yourself, why would a customer that pays hundreds every month for the past 5 months storm out of a Pilates class? Why does this review already have more likes from customers than any review on here? Why is my rare lateness relevant now when it was never an issue in the past 5 months? Don’t listen to me… take a class with her to personally experience her bad business ethic.*
April 25 · Xiomara Alexis FernandezLove this studio! Becca is the best part of my week. She is such an incredible teacher and an all around wonderful person. I started coming after I had my baby almost a year and a half ago and it’s been my new Pilates home!
