★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Love the Shadyside studio! I split my time between Pittsburgh and Florida and Club Pilates has a plan that makes the transition seamless. Estelle, at the Shadyside studio, is an excellent instructor! Her routines are challenging but also logical and elegant. Her instructions are perfect. Highly recommend!
August 20 · Deb GarlockThe instructors here are amazing but the business is run pretty unfairly. I lost my job and needed to cancel my membership after being a member for about 10 months. Someone who I was messaging back and forth with (who I presume to be the owner) said I still had to pay my monthly fee (about $260) because it was after their 30 day threshold. Only exceptions to the 30 days being if I became permanently disabled? I was told in my orientation that if there was some sort of extenuating circumstance such as job loss, illness, or city move that they would be understanding and waive the 30 day requirement but they refused to. Not to mention, there where legit emergency situations throughout my time here ie getting the flu, food poisoning, getting called in to work last minute all of which I got charged a bunch of fees for because I didn’t cancel my reservation 12 hours in advance. I understand having a cancellation window but at least make it 24 hours before charging people $15 per missed class. I would recommend this place if you like getting charged a bunch of fees or enjoy fighting in a que to book a class. Again, instructors are phenomenal but the way they run it makes it irredeemable. For a place that promotes itself as a wellness studio it is certainly very stingy and inflexible. Way way way over priced for what it offers
August 13 · Lety CelesteA class always makes my day better! The instructors are incredibly skilled and helpful and the studio is clean! There is a wide variety of class types and times and it always works with my schedule!
August 22 · Samantha ScharrToday I went for a follow-up doctor's appointment at Mercy Hospital. Long story short: I was informed that I needed to have a surgical spinal epidural. Not planned, but also important for pain management. Of course, because why not, I had scheduled my first Pilates class for today 3-4. Unfortunately, because of this completely unplanned procedure, I now can't make my Pilates class (and I am now outside of the 12 hour cancellation window).I reached out to the front desk with an image of my discharge instructions that clearly state I cannot participate in any activity today. I was informed by Club Pilates that a signed doctor's note would be required to avoid penalization. Here's my issue: yes, I understand policy. I totally support honoring policy in *most* instances. That said, when I signed up, the two sales associates who gave their "buy a membership" pitch stressed that Club Pilates Shadyside works with members/cancellation should something unexpected come up. Well, something unexpected has come up. I understand that Club Pilates requires a doctor's note. I also understand that getting a signed doctor's note from UMPC Mercy Hospital excusing me from Pilates is going to take time. .The kicker: I have discharge paperwork (dated), hospital visit information., my admission band, etc. supporting my request. No, it's not a signed doctor's note - it's discharge paperwork from UPMC that clearly details I can't do anything physical for the next 24 hours - including driving. Asking for a note is not the first thing on your mind when you're getting a needle shoved up your spinal canal. I don't know why anyone would fake a surgical spinal epidural and/or discharge paperwork to get out of a pilates class.I understand needing to enforce policies - that said, I'm genuinely shocked by the exchange I just had with the front desk. I was told that my issue would be sent to the Shadyside Club Pilates manager. When I asked for the manager's contact info (truly so I could follow up and detail what happened), I was informed that information "was not given out". Sigh. It's been a really disappointing start. I'm not a "Karen". I am actually a certified Pilates instructor who has worked in multiple studios - I get it, I know the struggles and I know why policies exist. I also know that there are instances where grace can be extended. I am not here to take advantage of the system. I am, though, looking for SOME grace around a last minute, unplanned procedure that comes with accompanying paperwork from the hospital.
April 18 · Gwendolyn Kelso-McKelveyGreat pilates studio, enjoy all the classes but particularly with Michelle who is clear in her instruction, sequence makes sense to your body, and she is encouraging. Highly recommend!
