★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Always clean. Friendly Staff. Helpful knowledgeable fitness staff. Excellent exercise-class instructors. Huge variety of exercise classes (from gentle/restorative to rigorous to fun). Saline swim pool. Awesome gym w/ high-quality equip. Good vibe for people of all ages (programs & classes support young, elderly & everybody between).I do wish they were open 1 hour later (like pre-covid), allowing more time to get home from work, eat, gym. Hoping they'll expand hours. Also wish we had a sauna, but luckily can go to Embarcadero YMCA for that.
August 22 · Margaret EisenbergJune 12, 2025My most favorite exercise at the Chinatown YMCA in San Francisco is BODYPUMP, instructed by a Carol L.Her classes are always so much fun, in which she really knows how to motivate me to lift a particular weight and to make each movement count. Her kind and generous attention to my condition, with a recent injured left arm is truly appreciated.May 22, 2025With a left "frozen shoulder," I hesitated but did attend an Aqua Fit group exercise in the salt water at the YMCA in Chinatown in San Francisco this Thursday's morning. Before the exercise started, I informed our instructor, LaKee Brandin Tolliver, of my injured arm. He calmly advised me to go at my own pace.Throughout the exercise, LaKee had often watched over and provided me with the needed encouragement, also clarification on specific proper movements. His instruction was clear, easy and fun to follow. A great teacher, indeed.
June 12 · Lucie BarlingBruce Lee history: The 致柔拳社 ("The Soft Arts Academy.") was started by 陳微明 back in Shanghai, and eventually they had a branch located in the US, and the YMCA is where they practiced. Unfortunately for them, they were the ones who cajoled Wong, Jack-Man into challenging Bruce Lee to a fight in Oakland.
January 03 · 龔振勝Denied financial assistance for membership. YMCA refused my paystubs and W2 forms. Ms. Ma started asking me invasive questions that has nothing to do with a YMCA membership; said she wasn't "allowed" to disclose what the financial limits were. I used to be a member before the pandemic but now I'm re-thinking being a member again. No one should have to go through this to apply for a membership. A lot of folks are going through economic hardships but they shouldn't be harassed for that. I'm looking at other gyms now, ones that are more welcoming and friendly to folks. We're honest, hard-working Americans and we deserve better.
January 23 · Em BBest health club ever! I have belonged to clubs from coast to coast for the past forty years. My experience thus far at this Y is amazing. Incredible fitness class instructors give personalized attention. My first time in Megan's yoga class today and I wish it was a 2 hour class... instead of 1 hour. Patricia, Wendy and every instructor bring their personal style to each class. I feel blessed that I can be a member of this organization. Definitely an asset to SF. Thanks to everyone!
