Don't get me wrong; he was incredibly intimidating at first (he has a reputation to maintain hahahah). However, Chavez Boxing Gym has become my unconventional second home. The gym's culture of support is pervasive, from cheering me on when I get my butt kicked sparring to surprising me with cupcakes on my birthday. Coach's attitude of respect and grit is infectious. Even the 50-year-old clients abide by the harsh "yes Coach, no Coach" vernacular.Apart from the culture, I can attest that my fitness and boxing technique has exponentially improved as well. Two years ago, I walked in not knowing the difference between a jab and a hook, but I now comfortably spar and throw combos on mitts. I can guarantee that lessons at Chavez Boxing Gym will not be easy. They challenge you, making you a more confident boxer and more disciplined human.
