California Yoga Center Introduce
Welcome to the California Yoga Center, a true gem in the Mountain View, California community. This studio is not your typical trendy yoga space; it is a place dedicated to the authentic and profound practice of yoga, with a strong emphasis on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. In a world of fast-paced, "quick workout" fitness, the California Yoga Center (CYC) offers a refreshing and meaningful alternative. It's a place where dedicated and knowledgeable teachers guide you through a practice that focuses on precision, alignment, and a deep understanding of each pose. This approach allows students to build a solid foundation and a practice that is both safe and deeply rewarding.
The studio's philosophy is rooted in the "root of yoga," as one reviewer noted, providing a holistic experience that includes not just physical postures, but also the sharing of sutras and chanting. This focus on the deeper aspects of yoga sets it apart from more commercial studios and fosters a sense of community and a genuine connection to the practice. It's a studio where teachers have a long history of dedication, with many having been part of the community for decades, and they continue to hone their craft through workshops and trips to India. This commitment ensures that students are receiving instruction that is not only careful and precise, but also continually evolving.
As a women-owned business, the California Yoga Center is built on a foundation of nurturing and support. It is a clean, well-equipped, and welcoming space that is well-suited for a wide range of students. Whether you are seeking a way to manage stress, improve your physical health, or simply find a sense of peace, CYC provides the tools and guidance to help you on your journey. It is a place where students are encouraged to learn and grow, fostering a community that is deeply grateful for the guidance and wisdom of its instructors.

What makes the California Yoga Center a truly worthwhile choice for anyone seeking a yoga studio in the Bay Area? The reasons are rooted in its dedication to authenticity and the quality of its instruction.
First and foremost, the expertise of the teachers is a rare and valuable asset. In an industry where yoga can sometimes be treated as a quick fitness fad, the instructors at CYC are committed to the careful and precise teaching of a centuries-old practice. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that students not only improve their physical health but also develop a deeper understanding of their own bodies and the poses. For a long-term, sustainable practice that helps with issues like back pain or scoliosis, this level of guidance is indispensable.
Second, the studio's focus on the holistic benefits of yoga is a significant draw. The inclusion of chanting and philosophical readings provides a richer experience that nurtures the mind and spirit, not just the body. This approach helps to build a more resilient and balanced life, as one long-time student noted, and is a key reason for the studio's loyal and enduring community. It’s a place where yoga is seen as a tool for "healthy and graceful aging," and the benefits extend far beyond the mat.
Finally, the inclusive and welcoming environment, coupled with practical features like accessibility and convenient class packs, makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of individuals. The New Student Pass is a low-risk way to experience the unique nature of the studio, and the existence of classes for specific needs, such as back care, shows a genuine commitment to helping everyone. For anyone in California who is "serious about yoga" and wants to find a studio that offers more than just a workout, the California Yoga Center is an exceptional and highly recommended destination.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is not a fancy place where you get a quick yoga style workout. The teachers here are dedicated and knowledgeable. They bring you closer to the root of yoga and help you improve in asanas by giving constant alignments and corrections. A few months after my first class here, I started reading Light on Yoga for the guidance on each asana and can see how precise the CYC teachers’ instructions are. There are also chanting and sutras shared during each class, which I don't often see in the fancier yoga studios.CYC also hosts great workshops from time to time suitable for different levels.Really appreciate the classes offered, especially the Monday classes by Miri. Highly recommend the studio to anyone serious about yoga.
June 30 · Feng H.I started Iyengar yoga at the California Yoga Center (CVC) in the 1990s and have taken classes here for about thirty years. Many teachers at CYC have been around this long or longer, some fellow students, too. The teachers I know are often taking workshops or trips to India to improve their classes. Their instruction is careful, precise, and encouraging. The studio is well equipped and clean. A rope wall and many props are available. I take “Yoga for Strength and Balance”, which suits my age level (78) very well. It helps me to stay healthy and independent. I know genes are important, but I believe that yoga is a big part of healthy and graceful aging for me. I am grateful to CYC and its skilled teachers and recommend their classes very highly.
July 07 · Heidi Gerster “HeidiandIsaac” KikawadaThis is a great studio! Fully equipped with wall ropes, and props, including blankets, blocks, mats, yoga straps, folding chairs and other specialized iyengar props. Knowledgeable instructors, thoughtful and conscious. They specialize in backcare and scoliosis. A great resource for the local community and beyond. World class teachers offer workshops throughout the year.
April 25 · cator shachoyI started practicing at California Yoga Center last year after searching for different options online, and feel so fortunate having found this studio. I love the pratice of Iyengar Yoga, with the emphasis on precise alignment, and the use of props. I'm mostly practicing with Lisa and Ruchi, both are truly phenomenal: professional, knowledgeable, and with such a level of positive energy. Classes could be 3-4 people or up to 20, but regardless they're able to give attention to each person in the room. Its rare to find a place that upholds such a high level of excellence, and at the same time feels like a family. Practicing at this studio improved my physical health and mental well-being, I couldn't recommend more.
July 26 · Itai Bermanthis is a fabulous place to become stronger with better balance. And all the while you’re doing this, you have a fun time. I recommend private lessons where you can work on those particular things that your body and your spirit need. this is the most enjoyable way to take care of yourself that you can imagine. I have been working privately for eight years and it has made an incredible difference in my life.
