★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Warning for Class Passers: even if you’ve taken multiple reformer classes at other gyms, they seem to have slightly older machines to other places like Club Pilates. The instructor that I had got very upset with me a couple times when I did not know exactly how their machines worked and needed a slight bit of assistance that took less than 3 seconds for the instructor to offer and was not incredibly disruptive to overall class flow. It’s of note that when I experience confusion at gyms like club Pilates instructors have simply assisted me without getting angry at me for my confusion. It usually takes less than 5 seconds to assist & is the instructors responsibility. It was a bit unprofessional and left me feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. Which can be especially difficult when participating in a more vulnerable workout like Pilates where you are following the instructor through the class and trusting them to guide you through the movement with your body through various stretches and strengthening exercises. The lady seemed angry with me, and asked if I had ever been there before. I imagine she was upset because on their website it requires a minimum of 3 beginner classes. It does not specify that these classes must take place at this gym specifically. I have completed 4 intro classes and 6 beginner classes at other gyms, which again did not use all the pieces and had ever so slightly different set ups than this gyms Pilates machines. I would assume that a gym would be prepared for such clients, but apparently not. So, i wouldn’t attend this gym if you have other options available. Seems to care more about their equipment than the quality of experience of the client. I imagine she may also do the same thing to clients who have completed the beginner classes at this gym when they are confused or forget.For me Pilates is about cleaning my mind and having a peaceful workout which is best achieved with an instructor who is not actively expressing anger with you over your learning experience and growth process.It was a decent workout, but once again made more difficult and less enjoyable by the fact that I felt the teacher was upset with me even though I did fulfill their requirement of 3 beginner classes, simply not at their gym. She also didn’t check us in at the beginning which didn’t allow her to see that I was a class passer.Constructive Feedback to the Gym: I would recommend having your instructors check in guests at the beginning so that they can see if there are any class passers or clients that may have done their 3 beginner classes at other gyms, so that you can be aware that they may need extra assistance with various aspects of your machines. And so they can avoid embarrassing themselves with unprofessional expressions of discontent towards the client, and so they can avoid embarrassing the client who is a member of the demographic that allows a gym to stay in business and pays their paychecks. If you want to grow your clientele class passers are a way to do so. And if you don’t, and truly cannot stand the variation or hold space and respect for the clients that come them, I’d suggest closing your gym to class passes.
