Babes of Wellness Introduce
In the dynamic and diverse landscape of Southern California, the search for a fitness space that truly feels like a second home is a journey many people undertake. For residents, particularly women, in the greater Los Angeles area, finding a gym that prioritizes safety, community, and genuine well-being over a conventional, often intimidating, fitness culture can be transformative. Enter Babes of Wellness, a gym and wellness center that is rewriting the rules of fitness by creating a sanctuary in the heart of Compton. It is more than a gym; it is an organization and a movement that champions a holistic approach to health, focusing on the mind and spirit as much as the body.
Babes of Wellness is a revolutionary concept, proudly identifying as a Latino-owned, LGBTQ+ owned, and women-owned business. This foundational identity is central to its mission: to provide a safe and empowering space for women and queer individuals. The studio's philosophy, "More Than A Body," challenges the toxic fitness culture that often focuses on appearance and punishment. Instead, it promotes an accepting and mindful approach to movement, encouraging members to celebrate their bodies for their strength and capabilities. The atmosphere is consistently described as "amazing," "welcoming," and "supportive," as highlighted by real customer reviews. One reviewer noted, "It’s a great community here and I feel so safe and welcomed to workout here," while another stated, "The workouts are empowering, the vibes are always immaculate, and there’s something so special about being in a space created just for women." This dedication to community and safety is what truly distinguishes Babes of Wellness from a typical gym.
The studio's focus on women's wellness is evident in every aspect of its operation. It’s a space where a "trauma-informed" approach to fitness is utilized, ensuring that members can engage in physical activity in a way that promotes emotional healing and personal discovery. The coaching staff is not just comprised of trainers but also certified personal trainers and nutrition coaches who understand that true wellness is a multifaceted journey. This deep level of care and understanding makes Babes of Wellness an ideal place for individuals who are seeking a supportive and nurturing environment to work on their health goals, whether they are beginners or seasoned athletes.
Located in the Rancho Tech Center at 855 W Victoria St Unit D, Compton, CA 90220, USA, Babes of Wellness is highly accessible for residents of Compton and the surrounding Southern California communities. The studio’s location is convenient, offering both free on-site parking and free street parking, which is a significant amenity in the Los Angeles area. This ease of access ensures that clients can arrive for their appointments without the added stress of finding a place to park.
The studio’s commitment to accessibility extends beyond just parking. It features a wheelchair accessible entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom, ensuring that individuals with diverse mobility needs can participate fully in the classes and services. The presence of a gender-neutral restroom further reflects the studio's dedication to creating a safe and welcoming space for all. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been to multiple classes at Babes and it has been an amazing experience and workout from every class. Everyone from instructors to fellow students in the classes have been super nice and welcoming. It’s a great community here and I feel so safe and welcomed to workout here.
July 20 · Monica LunaI absolutely love Babes of Wellness! The coaches make you feel so welcomed and supported from the moment you walk in. The workouts are empowering, the vibes are always immaculate, and there’s something so special about being in a space created just for women. It’s more than a gym it’s a whole experience that lifts you up inside and out
July 04 · Stephanie VenegasI've been looking for a women's-only gym for a long time, as well as beginner weightlifting classes, so I'm so happy to have found both here! The environment is fun and unintimidating, and the coaches and other members are super supportive. I've already been learning a lot and am looking forward to trying some more of the classes that they offer (so far I've done power hour, kettlebell essentials, and olympic lifts which were all great)
May 01 · Mia EisendorfI got the opportunity to start at Babes of Wellness in March 2025, and what makes this space so different from any other gym or class-based fitness program I’ve tried is that while the fitness component is definitely there (and great for all levels), it centers healing, both generational and personal, through movement and true wellness. In communities of color, we’re often taught to suppress our emotions and frustrations with the world, but here I’ve learned to release and transform them through movement. It’s never just about a number on the scale or a pants size, it’s about how we feel, how we show up for ourselves, and how we reclaim our power. I feel incredibly honored to be part of this community, continually inspired by the trainers, and grateful for the way Babes of Wellness has taught me to approach health with love, strength, and intention.Babes of Wellness is not just a gym, it is a safe space, a home almost and it is one I recommend everyone give a chance too.
August 26 · PaulaI began my search a few months ago for a personal trainer in the South Bay area and stumbled upon Babes of Wellness, a private all-women’s gym offering 1-on-1 training, group sessions, and fitness classes. I was excited to learn it was owned by a WOC, Kat. On our kickoff call, I explained that I was committed to a year of private training but needed flexibility due to a demanding work schedule. I also needed a trainer experienced in rehabilitation because my top goal was rehabbing a severe knee and shoulder injury. Kat assured me Babes of Wellness could support that, so I signed up for their one-year private membership (~$800/month for two sessions a week).PROS1. Alexa!!! She’s the only private trainer at Babes, and she is phenomenal. In just three months with her, I lost 10 pounds and, more importantly, my knee pain disappeared. She understands the body so well and tailors every workout to strengthen the muscles that support my injuries. She focuses on form above all else, which made our sessions more effective and gave me confidence I didn’t know I had. Alexa researched my injuries, created modifications, and explained each exercise in detail so I knew exactly what we were targeting and why. She’s encouraging, motivating, and trustworthy. I went from struggling to walk up stairs to being able to do squats again! She gave me so much value and truly changed my health.CONS1. Flexibility: With Alexa being the only private trainer, scheduling is tough. She worked hard to accommodate me, but overall class times and availability are limited. When you’re paying this much, it’s frustrating if you can’t get time slots that fit your schedule.2. Culture: Outside of Alexa, the culture didn’t feel positive. Kat often uses sarcasm that comes across as demeaning. I know some people may find it funny when your trainer talks down to you and even call it “tough love,” but that’s not how I operate. I came to BOW in a very vulnerable state and expressed to Kat my fears of losing mobility at such a young age. So when I’m in a private 1-on-1 training (which takes place at the same time and area of group classes) and she makes fun of me for not being able to lift as much weight as her Señora Babes classes in front of everyone, I definitely took offense to that. There is also a subculture of women who are obsessed with being in Kat's "inner circle" and they create a toxic air of exclusion, especially if you do not have a membership. Some people can’t afford a membership (heck, I barely could!), but that doesn’t mean you should be iced out of conversations, ignored, or shamed.3. Value: For the cost, I didn’t feel the membership offered enough beyond Alexa’s training. Group classes aren’t included; open gym isn’t an option; class slots fill quickly; and memberships can’t be paused, so you’re charged regardless of attendance. Make-up sessions were hard to schedule, given availability issues.4. Cancellation: I understand that the cancellation policy states that a final week will be charged for a fee, so you can take this critique with a grain of salt, but I had 5 sessions (technically 6, but it is what it is) to make up. I asked Kat if she was willing to waive the final cancellation fee, considering I had already had $600 of sessions still to make up. She said no and said I can just make up the training sessions whenever I have time. All in all, I can’t see myself returning to Babes of Wellness. Alexa gave me everything I hoped for in a trainer, and I’ll always be grateful for her, but outside of her, the experience didn’t feel supportive or worth the price. I believe fitness spaces should empower women to feel included and safe, not pressured or dismissed. I hope Babes can evolve in that direction, because the foundation of what they’re building could be amazing, if handled differently.
