Unlike some large, impersonal gyms, this center offers a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, where staff and members alike are supportive and encouraging. As one member, who has been attending for years at nearly 90 years old, put it, the club has "good equipment kept clean and in good condition" and is staffed by "friendly people."
The philosophy of the Active Wellness Center is to provide a place to get a great workout without any sort of "showing off." The environment is designed to be inclusive and supportive, making it an excellent choice for beginners who may feel intimidated by traditional gyms, as well as for those who simply prefer a more relaxed and focused workout. This distinct culture is a key part of the experience, with one reviewer highlighting the "very distinct culture of wiping down what you use after you use it," which demonstrates a shared respect among members.
A significant highlight of the facility is its investment in modern, high-tech equipment, including the much-praised E-Gym machines. These machines offer a unique and engaging workout experience that is both effective and fun. The gym is well-equipped for its size, offering a wide range of machines, free weights, and an open area for mat work or personal training. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Small club, know lots of people, good equipment kept clean and in good condition, friendly staff -- all of them: what's not to like? I've been a member for several years, and at nearly 90 years old, I'll probably be a member as long as I can keep coming. Five Stars!
August 06 · Jim NewcomerI quite like it here-- great and friendly staff and friendly people working out at all hours. Lots of classes that are included with membership, and a few that cost a bit but seem to be top quality. This is not a meat-head gym! The new LO aquatic and fitness center across town is more that style. This is a place to get a good workout without any sort of showing off.The E-Gym machines are REMARKABLE. I'm a videogamer and until I started using e-gym, always skipped leg day. It's fun collecting the pac-man dots, and tailored to you.Decent locker rooms, rentable permanent half-lockers, day-use full-lockers, and showers. There's a steam room but no sauna. There is not towel service (yet-- I will keep hounding them to pick that back up-- it's awkward bringing towels to and fro). There are hair dryers and soap in the bathroom, and combo-bodywash-shampoo in the showers, but no other fancy amenities like cotton balls, deodorant, and lotions. That's OK with me.Machines, bikes, elipticals, stairs, handbike, 2 new spinbikes, kettles, and freeweights and a large open area when classes aren't in session for doing PT, mat work, etc. Very well equipped for the size. The other people who use the gym have been pleasant, social, and there is a very distinct culture of wiping down what you use after you use it. Bravo! If you are an employee at the surrounding office park, or a member of an insurance plan that includes Active&Fit Direct, you will have a chance to grab a membership at quite a discount.
May 28 · DaveI just turned 55 and am somewhat self investingater,, I too have providence. We all think that 55 is a senior citizen, untrue. The true age for Medicare part c is 65 sometimes 67. And this applies to very few people. The criteria has to be met. Gyms are not “ therapeutic now Physical therapy without Medicare part C. Providence is a catholic based business. Not that it matters but in the mission statement the beliefs are catholic based. I have a hard time because your primary care doctor talks to you for an hour and farms you out for your needs. So if one Dr says physical therapy, your primary care has to sign also. Now that providence has moved locations to Beaverton, it’s much different. I am extreme. I regularly fall and usually end up maybe not broken but cracked and horrid bruising. I broke my knee 2 years ago, no way did I get a gym pass anywhere. Ok I did see the doctor five weeks in and I healed myself. Knowing the outpatient costs were greater than my rent. I cannot afford providence, you only get in home care after 80, with qualifying health problems. So I suggest this, walk a lot. Use health insurance sparingly but Never miss an appointment, similar to AWOL, 3 times and watch services dissipate slowly. Build your own workout. Fill two jugs of water, and walk around for 15 min. Then on the floor ten reps of 7 gut crunches, pushups on the counter it’s not as easy as you think. Anything who is not integrated through providence, look for the AMA sticker in window or ask to see it. Remember not on Medicare good luck
January 17 · Anne EamesMedium to small size facility with the feel of a private club with state of the art workout equipment plus gym area. Facility is well maintained and impeccably clean. In addition, the staff is not only properly certified but also very caring and friendly. They greet my husband and I by name with a smile, and frequently solicit our opinion regarding our satisfaction level with our membership. We feel fortunate to have this happy place where we can continue to stay active in a very comfortable environment.
July 01 · liliana heller-mafricaFriendly staff, lots of great classes. Clean weight area, spacious locker room, nice showers. I love using the big carpeted mirror room for burpees, stretching, or anything that requires some space. Very reasonably priced.
