The core philosophy of Torch Yoga is to create an inspiring space where you can explore your limitations and find inner strength. The instructors are a key part of this experience, consistently praised for being supportive, inspiring, and expert guides. One local user expressed deep appreciation for the "warm smiles and genuine kindness of everyone there" and how the instructors "encourage me to grow while honoring my own pace." The studio also uniquely blends physical challenge with mindful practice. Another reviewer highlighted the value of the "meditation parts," describing them as a "reset button" that allows them to leave behind the chaos of the day. This holistic approach, which integrates physical strengthening with mental peace, is a defining feature of the studio.
While a single experience with one instructor was described as less than ideal in a review, it's worth noting the importance of giving a place a second chance. The same reviewer, after returning to a class with a different instructor, found the experience to be "much better" and praised the "calm, encouraging" energy of the new teacher, who "created a welcoming environment." This shows that the studio's commitment to creating a positive space is evident across its team, and that finding the right class and instructor can make all the difference. The positive feedback from the vast majority of local users consistently highlights the studio's incredible sense of community and the life-changing impact of their practice. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Torch is absolutely amazing—it’s become my second home. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the warm smiles and genuine kindness of everyone there. The sense of community is incredible; it’s not just a place to practice yoga, but a space where I feel truly connected to others. The instructors are so supportive and inspiring, always encouraging me to grow while honoring my own pace. I app Traci ate the supper in building practice with tougher poses.Practicing here has not only strengthened my body but also filled me with a sense of peace. I really enjoy the meditation parts. It’s like a reset button for my being, allowing me to leave behind the chaos of the day and connect with the present moment. I love that each instructor brings that into focus.
January 03 · Vianney ArmerI always like to give places a second chance before writing a review. The first time I came, I was lost trying to find the place. Parking was scattered, and I didn’t realize you had to enter from the back of the building. I was a couple minutes late (my fault), but the way the instructor, Alyson Barnfather, handled it was unnecessary. Her comment, “you’re lucky the door was even open,” followed by walking off upset, rubbed me the wrong way especially since I had paid $30 for the class. It was just a couple of minutes, the door was still unlocked, and I came in quietly. Honestly, her reaction was more disruptive than my entrance. The studio itself also made me uneasy. The built-in floor mats didn’t feel sanitary (even though I’m sure they clean them), and cables hanging from the ceiling didn’t help. The heat and steam during hot yoga were extremely intense, and unfortunately I was placed directly in front of the steam vent, making it hard to keep up. That part didn’t bother me, it’s hot yoga after all. What did bother me was that after class, when I thanked Alyson, she used that moment to “chew me out” again, saying I should count myself lucky the door was open and that it won’t happen again. Not exactly the Zen energy I expected. To make it worse, her children were running around during class, banging on the walls and windows, and she had to leave the room a couple of times because of it. Yet somehow, she still felt justified in scolding me. Maybe she thought that because she wasn’t yelling, she wasn’t being rude but it was rude. Extremely. You already made your point, no need to keep repeating it. I'm not your child. That said, I’m glad I gave the studio another try, because Melissa Moore was the complete opposite. Calm, encouraging, and she actually flowed with us during practice. She created a welcoming environment and embodied the energy I was hoping to find.Overall, I wouldn’t return to a class taught by Alyson, but Melissa’s class was a much better experience.
August 19 · Michiah NaylorI'm a huge yoga novice so this class was difficult for me especially after the halfway point, but I was happy I survived without having to leave the room once. The class was a very rewarding and humbling experience. The instructor was thorough with her guidance through the movements and excellent at bringing good spiritual energy to our minds. 10/10 would recommend.
June 05 · Hunter ThompsonThis hot yoga studio is one of the best! The Virginia Beach and Norfolk locations are both great and unique in their own way. I love the hippie vibe at the Virginia Beach location. The studio is always hot, the best classes are the ones that mix mindfulness and intention with an intense flow. I love how the studio has a community garden and an outdoor shower. It feels like a retreat. The owner really has cultivated a great community here.
December 28 · C RossI enjoy several of their classes here, fromthe funky flow to sweet Surrender, to their outdoor yoga. This location my favorite. It has a bohemian feel to it, compared to the Norfolk location. They're both great, don't get me wrong. Instructors are compassionate too!Parking can be messy here if there is a class taking place before yours.
