★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It’s unfortunate that I have to leave this review but it’s indicative of USM’s failure to fully serve it’s students once again. This gym has all new equipment. That’s great. It’s an old building but whatever, if you clean it properly, should be okay. The issue is that it clearly isn’t properly cleaned. Even if you have wipes for people to use, you still have to clean everything rigorously in a gym environment. I’ve gotten warts on my hands from attending this gym. The showers are rarely fully cleaned. They smell like urine. The sauna is rarely cleaned as well. There’s literal trash in it underneath some of the seats. The picture shows zynn’s stuck to the wall on the shower stall wall that has been there for 3!!! months!!! If the facility is being properly cleaned, how are they still there???? If you can’t staff janitors to clean, pay them more. This is absurd for a higher ed gym. This place serves a purpose and can be great but it’s falling so far short right now.
August 11 · ckEdit: 2/3/25 they renovated the Sauna a few weeks back, it’s very nice now! Sanded and cleaned the benches and replaced the flooring. Thank you! I renewed my membership.Big fan of this place, awesome equipment, lots of space, my family has been long standing members of the gym and I graduated from USM. The staff are also great people, my only complaint, it’s a big one, is that there is no full deep clean at the sauna. Trash piles up, the windows have the same sweat patterns as the week before, the floor mat was removed, and no temperature gauge. I’m sure this is not a priority for the University. But there should be enough management at this great college for an exceptionally small dirty room to be monitored thoroughly and cleaned regularly. With all the nicotine pouches, hair, and paper towels accumulating under the seats, If they left a broom outside of the sauna, I would do it myself. Please Sullivan recreation and fitness complex, I came to the front and left a very nice comment in person about the sauna that was seemingly just tossed away, because I’ve been watching the same nicotine pouch in the same corner sit in the same place with the same droplets of sweat in the same place, so nothings being touched, even after talking to multiple people. Thank you, enough people use the sauna for it to be better maintained.
February 03 · Ryder KallweitSullivan gym is modern and well kept. The gym has 2 different sections with lots of machines and choies. The gyms, sauna and showers are always clean. Kudos to Kevin for doing such a great job running the program.
June 02 · J BAXTERAlways been an awesome place to workout and has a great sauna. Excellent management has kept this facility in top notch shape. Very safe and comfortable environment.
May 06 · JayNew to Portland. Just got stationed here about a month ago (U.S. Coast Guard). Needed a place to play basketball regardless of the weather. There’s literally three other gyms that don’t charge me to have a membership; however, the one gym that has a basketball gym did charge me, which wasn’t too much of an issue. When I started my membership here, I was never told that practice takes place Monday-Thursday which also wasn’t an issue, but I see as lack of information on the gym. Today, I wanted to utilize the court, knowing I’m going to be busy the remainder of the week due to my schedule. I come in, ask to use one of the basketballs, was given one, and stepped into the gym seeing about 4 guys mopping. I was assuming they were about done, because I wasn’t informed it was closed and was GIVEN A BASKETBALL TO USE. Then when the same people at the front that gave me a ball we’re telling me it’s closed, one of the guys who was mopping ended up being very RUDE. “Get out, you can’t be in here!” he yelled. I understand why he was saying it, but I’m paying to use the court and was NEVER informed that it was closed. He has no right to speak to me that way. The staff at the front is always good, but I know that you people mopping the floors hate doing it because it’s so hard, but be considerate of people like me.Unless you come here for free, I highly recommend not coming to this gym.
