Orangetheory Fitness Colonial Plaza: Experience the Science-Backed "Afterburn" in Orlando
For Central Florida residents looking to elevate their fitness game beyond a traditional gym routine, Orangetheory Fitness Colonial Plaza offers a dynamic and scientifically-backed alternative. Located right in the heart of Orlando, this studio specializes in a unique form of Heart Rate Based Interval Training designed to produce the "afterburn effect," or Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). This means you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate for up to 24 hours after your one-hour class is finished.
Orangetheory's success, which has garnered a massive following worldwide, is built on a simple yet highly effective trifecta: Science, Coaching, and Technology. Every 60-minute class is coach-led and leverages proprietary heart rate monitors to track your effort in real-time, ensuring you work out at the optimal intensity for your body and goals. The format combines cardiovascular work on treadmills and rowing machines with strength training on the floor, providing a complete, full-body workout that constantly changes to prevent plateaus. Many who were initially hesitant about joining, or new to structured classes, have quickly come to love the welcoming atmosphere, the ease of following the expert coaches, and the real-world results they begin to see after just a few months.
While the brand is nationally recognized for its quality of service, the local experience at the Colonial Plaza location—like any local business—is centered on the day-to-day operations and the staff's dedication to the community. Potential members are encouraged to focus on the structure and effectiveness of the workout, which is undeniably one of the most popular physical fitness programs in the region.
Location and Accessibility
The Orangetheory Fitness studio is conveniently situated to serve the Orlando community, particularly those in the downtown and eastern Orlando areas. Its location in the Colonial Plaza makes it an easy stop for residents running errands or commuting.
Address: 2714 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32803, USA
Accessibility is a key priority for the studio, ensuring that the transformative personal trainer-led experience is available to all members of the Florida community. The studio provides excellent provisions for ease of access and mobility:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot
- Wheelchair accessible restroom
In addition to these physical accommodations, the studio is part of the extensive Orangetheory network, providing national privileges. This means that while you are a member of the Colonial Plaza location, you have the flexibility to take classes at any of the other numerous studios across the country when you travel, a significant benefit for Central Florida residents who are frequently on the go.
Services Offered
As a high-intensity fitness center, Orangetheory Fitness Colonial Plaza’s core service is the group interval training class, which is a blend of specialized training formats.
- The Signature Orange 60 Class: A one-hour, full-body workout that strategically splits time between three stations—treadmill, water rower, and strength floor. It's focused on achieving 12 or more minutes in the "Orange Zone" (84-91% of maximum heart rate) to trigger EPOC.
- Specialized 50-Minute Classes: These include 'Tread 50,' designed to specifically enhance cardiovascular endurance and running performance, and 'Strength 50,' dedicated exclusively to resistance training to build lean muscle mass and improve metabolic efficiency.
- Expert Coaching and Personalized Guidance: Every session is led by a certified personal trainer (Coach) who provides real-time adjustments, form corrections, and motivation. The workout's intensity is personalized using the heart rate monitor data displayed on screens throughout the studio.
- Mobile and Online Classes: For members needing flexibility, the studio offers Online classes, allowing you to keep up with your fitness routine even when you cannot make it into the studio.
- Performance Tracking Technology: The OTconnect™ technology tracks your workout performance, including calories burned and 'Splat Points' (minutes in the Orange/Red zones), with detailed performance summaries available in the mobile app to monitor progress.
- Restroom Facilities: The studio provides clean and accessible restroom amenities for member convenience.
Features / Highlights
What truly sets the Orangetheory Fitness Colonial Plaza location apart is the unique combination of scientific methodology and a supportive, structured environment:
- The EPOC Afterburn Effect: The entire workout is designed to increase your metabolic rate for hours post-exercise, maximizing calorie burn far beyond the 60 minutes you spend in the studio.
- Heart-Rate Monitored Training: Real-time heart rate monitoring is central to the program, ensuring you push hard enough for results but safely, a major benefit for both beginners and seasoned athletes.
- Adaptability for All Levels: Coaches are trained to provide modifications and alternatives (such as low-impact bikes/striders for treadmills) for every exercise, making the workout accessible for all fitness levels and those with orthopedic restrictions.
- Motivating Group Environment: The class structure, while individually personalized through heart rate zones, maintains an energetic and "welcoming environment" where the group dynamic encourages you to "unleash your inner beast."
- Convenient Class Times: The studio offers flexible class times throughout the day, which are "ideal for any schedule," ensuring local residents can easily incorporate the powerful workout into their busy lives.
- Simplified Payments: The studio accepts Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, ensuring a smooth and modern transaction experience.

What Is Worth Choosing
Orangetheory Fitness Colonial Plaza is an excellent choice for Florida residents who need a structured, results-driven, and engaging gym experience but want to avoid aimlessly wandering around a weight room. The decision to choose this studio should be based on the proven effectiveness of their workout model—the heart-rate monitoring and the EPOC-focused intervals truly deliver on the promise of increased stamina, strength, and fat loss, as confirmed by members who are "seeing results." The "easy to follow" coaches and the welcoming environment make the challenging workout feel less intimidating and more achievable.
However, potential members should be fully aware of the Membership required policy and are strongly encouraged to ask detailed, clarifying questions about all membership terms, especially the freeze privileges and cancellation processes, and to confirm those details in writing. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was extremely hesitant about joining Orange Theory. I have been in fitness classes before, but never structured like Orange Theory. I have honestly been loving it for the past few months so far! It is a welcoming environment. The coaches are easy to follow and the class times are ideal for any schedule. After a few months of going, I feel like I am seeing results. I definitely recommend!
June 04 · Katie FayeI joined Orange Theory Colonial Plaza a few months ago with my daughter and her friend. During sign-up, I made it clear that I travel frequently and specifically asked about the flexibility to place my membership on hold. The manager assured me that I could pause my membership at any time—this reassurance was a major reason I decided to enroll.Unfortunately, shortly after joining, I suffered an injury and attempted to put my membership on hold. That’s when I was told I had been misinformed—memberships can only be frozen for a maximum of 60 days. This directly contradicted what I was told when signing up, and I was left paying for a service I couldn’t use. When I was finally ready to return, I was told that my membership had been set up incorrectly and could not be fixed. It was charging the store’s account instead of my own. I was told I had to come into the studio in person to re-enroll. On top of that, my daughter also experienced a separate account issue and had to make multiple calls to get her account corrected—adding to the overall frustration. The most frustrating part came more recently, when I discovered that billing on my account had resumed—without any notification. For four months, I was being charged without a single message, email, or call informing me that my membership was active again, or that I had accrued months’ worth of unused classes. I received no communication and was given no opportunity to use the services I was unknowingly being billed for. When I contacted the studio to address the issue, I was met with blame. The manager claimed it was my responsibility to come in and sign a cancellation form, but in my mind, it had been cancelled. To resolve the issue, I was offered just 10 classes (that expire at the end of the year), which is barely equivalent to a month of membership—only a third of what I was charged during the four months of resumed billing. When I expressed how disappointed I was with this entire situation, the manager seemed more focused on the potential impact of a negative review than on actually resolving the issue or making things right. From start to finish, this has been an incredibly frustrating experience. I’ve dealt with misinformation at sign-up, billing errors, poor communication, mishandled account setups (both mine and my daughter’s), and customer service that feels more performative than solution-oriented.I expected more from Orange Theory—a company known for its brand and quality of service. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously, not only to resolve my situation more fairly, but to ensure other members don’t have to go through a similar experience.
July 20 · Susan DuqueOTF Colonial is best! The team of sales associates and coaches are so welcoming and warm! If you’re looking for a good workout & an amazing community… THIS is the place.
June 03 · Emma ZippererI solve problems for people all day. The last thing I want to do is figure out a workout routine.I could download all the plans I wanted, but when I just showed up to the gym, I'd be waiting for machines, or stall wondering if I was doing it right, not get in enough cardio, get annoyed waiting between sets, and it would take forever.I had enjoyed another HITT style class before, but I'd often end those workouts needing half an hour just to recover my senses.Turns out I was pegging my heart rate way too long. All that changed with Orange Theory. The heart rate monitor and display kept me on track for my goals without over-doing it.With the addition of Lift classes, I could get in more of the weight-based workouts to build muscle and stay balanced. But the biggest thing is all I have to do is show up. The regular schedule provides me a structure to my week, and all I have to do is have the discipline to walk in the door on time (or within 5 minutes of on time) 3-5 times a week, and follow the plan. The coaches do the rest. They check me on my form. They challenge me. They keep me on pace. And above all, they care about the experience I'm having. With the various challenges and extra fun sprinkled in (wacky Wednesday, themed workouts, etc.) they also strive to build a community.Even if I don't know everyone that comes in and out, when we all go in together and are doing the same workout, there is something motivating about it.I don't feel awkward doing a single-arm, contra-lateral, single-leg deadlift, because everyone else is tipping over and working on those accessory core muscles or whatever, too.And as to results, I have been over 200 lbs since middle school, and since college, usually somewhere between 205 and 210. And while I've fluctuated, I have been less than 195 for the longest stretch of time in my life since doing OTF. Still rockin' the dad bod, but one I can comfortably put in a fitted t-shirt.I'm also far more flexible, and even ran a 6 minute mile, which is something I had never done before.I'm grateful for the whole team at Colonial. The coaches, the staff, everyone cares that we stay on track, stay healthy, and meet our goals. It is well worth the investment.
April 25 · Will DukesLove this studio! Parking is in the back and you can use either door to get in. The coaches and staff are so friendly and motivating. I wish they had a few later class times after 9am but other than that my favorite place
