Morton Hall Gym Introduce
For residents of Groton, Connecticut, the Morton Hall Gym is far more than a simple place to work out; it's a comprehensive hub for fitness, recreation, and community events. Situated within the Naval Submarine Base New London, this facility serves as a vital resource for service members, their families, and other authorized patrons. Its mission extends beyond traditional gym services to provide a wide array of support and recreational activities. This multi-faceted approach makes it a unique and valuable asset in the Connecticut community, offering a space where people can focus on their physical health while also connecting with others and enjoying a variety of events.
The gym itself is well-structured and equipped to meet a wide range of fitness needs. As one patron noted, while it may not have an "aerobics room," it boasts "plenty of space and small floor mats to move however you need." This flexibility allows for a diverse range of workouts, from circuit training to personal floor exercises. The facility is equipped with a modern 4,000 square foot weight training area, featuring a vast selection of free weights and machines from brands like Life Fitness and Hammer Strength. This ensures that even during busy times, users have access to the equipment they need for a complete and effective workout.
Beyond the weights and cardio machines, Morton Hall Gym also provides a host of amenities that transform it into a recreational destination. The presence of a basketball court and a volleyball court encourages team sports and friendly competition, while the on-site sauna offers a relaxing way to unwind and recover after a strenuous workout. These additional features, combined with a commitment to cleanliness, as highlighted by a review mentioning a "nice and clean" gym, create a positive and inviting atmosphere. The gym’s role as a community gathering place is also evident in its hosting of special events, such as the Halloween truck or treat, which brought families together for a fun and festive experience.

For those with access to the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, the Morton Hall Gym is an invaluable resource that is absolutely worth choosing. The most compelling reason is its comprehensive nature. Unlike a single-purpose facility, Morton Hall is a multifaceted hub that supports physical fitness, recreational activities, and community engagement all in one place. The presence of a basketball court, volleyball court, and sauna allows for a well-rounded fitness routine that can include sports and relaxation, not just weightlifting or cardio. This variety is a huge asset and helps to keep workouts interesting and motivating. The fact that the gym is a known venue for community events, as seen with the Halloween truck or treat, also shows that it is a place for connection and family fun, a significant benefit for military families.
Furthermore, the quality of the facility is a strong selling point. With its spacious layout, well-structured weight and cardio areas, and a dedication to cleanliness, it provides a superior workout environment. The commitment to accessibility, including wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and parking, ensures that all members of the community can use the facilities comfortably. While its location on a military base means it's not open to the general public, for those who are authorized to use it, the benefits are clear. The gym offers a professional, clean, and well-equipped space that is supported by a wider network of services, making it a crucial component of the quality of life for service members and their families in Connecticut. It is a place that understands its role in supporting a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle, and for that reason, it is highly recommended to its target audience.

March 15 · Bryan CulverTook my daughter's to the Halloween truck or treat, and they had a blast! We will be back next year. The gym was nice and clean.
November 02 · Kristin BrownIt gets hot in the summer, if you try to go in the morning it's usually packed. The weekend hours could be better, but is it the only one open 7 days a week on base.Good selection of equipment and it's well maintained. The staff are always nice and super helpful.
February 21 · CameronMorton Hall is an excellent on base gym. Despite being an older building, the continued improvements to both the facility and equipment available make it a great place to get a workout in. My only complaints are that I wish they could stay open a bit later, and that it would be nice if during the summer months they had some sort of cooling in the gym (there are fans that blow air out which helps some). Otherwise, there's a wide range of free weights and machines available, and a seperate area for Olympic style lifting (or for those who enjoy dropping weights).
July 22 · Matt McIntyreNOFFS Zone and equipment is nice, but the gym is small so avoid peak hours if you dont want to wait. The basketball courts are pretty well maintained by the staff.
