January 09 · CannavieveI am a former 24 Hour Fitness member. Left their gym near Bridgeport Village because it went so far downhill on cleanliness and equipment condition.I love this LA Fitness, especially since the $1 million remodel was completed earlier this month. It’s clean, lots of new equipment, great training area, upgraded WiFi. It gets busy but never too crowded. The staff are friendly and helpful. My only knock is the locker room and bathroom are a bit worn and weren’t included in the remodel. I know some are bummed they got rid of the basketball court, but the new weight equipment area that replaced it is fantastic IMHO.
August 12 · Dave WI’m new to the area [and state], I’ve been coming to this gym for a couple months now. It’s been pretty good, even though the wifi NEVER works. Love the jacuzzi and sauna. Everyone is chill, low key, does their own thing and one of the best things: I have yet to see anyone recording video. When I first came, I needed a place with equipment, open floor for bodyweight exercises, ideally pull-up bars (which they don’t have, not a big problem because I work at a specialty gym that has plenty) but ESPECIALLY a dance studio space, sauna and ideally a BASKETBALL COURT.The court was the final stone I needed to complete my Infinity Gauntlet, which I couldn’t do anywhere else. The first day I came, however, they informed me that the court would be removed in about 1 month, but it would be replaced with modern Rogue rigs with PULL-UP BARS. I was willing to accept this trade-off. Particularly because they told me there’s another gym in the region (not in the same town, but the region) that will keep their ball court.Fast forward to now and the bball court is gone and replaced with a REALLY nice looking area. Very aesthetic. However it seems to me that it’s basically just a hub for aspiring OF/IG models. And the Rogue rigs are very literally only squat racks. I’ve been to gyms, literally, ALL AROUND the country and always looked for Rogue rigs, because of their versatility. These are not those rigs. They’re just squat racks. They do have cross-bars but those are more just a part of their construction, not for exercise function. The rest of the area basically covers all the bases needed to become an insta model. Including a selfie mirror with a IG-caption-worthy quote. Anyone in touch with the current times is aware this is what the face of “fitness” has now become, “booty builders,” “booty bulking,” “booty bands”… probably eventually GoPros that attach to butt cheeks. This gym is not the first to update like this and won’t be the last. Because whereas fitness used to be about personal growth, it’s now about personal branding. Instead of self-improvement, it’s now for self-endorsement.Nevertheless, the renovation is crazy disappointing for me, definitely would’ve preferred the basketball court, personally. Guess I just misunderstood what the build would be in the end. To reiterate, I was informed of this the very first time I walked into the gym.One more thing that is probably idiosyncratic of the mind of a social scientist:The rest of the facility was also revamped with a dope glow up. Looks really clean and modern, as the former design was clearly quite outdated. BUT! What was great about the theme of the previous design was there were huge photos of people (from diverse groups) with inspiring words superimposed over them. Words like “Determination,” “Perseverance,” “Champion,” etc. Now there are just huge “LA Fitness” logos in their place. Not a problem and not unusual for a gym—or any business—at all. I just found it unique, and actually effective in providing motivation, to see those images that elevated THE INDIVIDUAL. Instead of THE CORPORATION. Diverse faces were replaced with a monolith. Yet another logo to behold in a world full of them. Whereas before it provided a bit of reprieve from our constant bombardment of ads. I get it, photos are taken and posted from every angle in a facility now, so branding is paramount. Not hating at all. Not a huge deal, but another benefit that was lost in my eyes, personally. For these reasons it lost five-star quality for me. Still like the gym but I will likely be frequenting the other location with the court, and without the booty barracks instahub, most of the time.
August 01 · Black JewelzThis was a great gym. Out of nowhere they permanently closed their basketball courts. Said it’s part of some remodel and they will not have basketball there ever again. No warning at all, came into get my usual workout and hoop and just a big closure sign. This gym had a great basketball community here and now it’s gone without even consideration for those people who go there for that reason. I will never be back.
July 14 · jack ritchieI'd say this gym is average. They have everything you need to get a basic workout it, but no real thrills. The staff was friendly, and the gym was clean, but you can definitely tell the gym was outdated. The carpets had big wear marks at every major walkway for one, and all the plates were not round but flat on the edges.I'd go there if you were just starting out, but don't expect this to be a bodybuilding gym. Although if you want to do cardio, I don't think I've ever seen more equipment at a gym before for cardio, so your bound to find an open spot.
