What is worth choosing
When considering a gym in Virginia, and specifically in the Alexandria area, LA Fitness on Little River Turnpike offers a compelling package for a particular type of fitness enthusiast. The most significant benefit is the gym's comprehensive range of facilities and services, all available under one membership. For someone who values variety—the ability to lift weights, take a yoga class, and swim in a pool all in one visit—this gym provides a strong value proposition. The location's convenience is also a major plus, making it easy to fit a workout into a busy schedule. The staff's positive demeanor, as highlighted by reviews, helps create a welcoming environment. However, it is essential for prospective members to be aware of the potential challenges, as noted by current members. The gym's maintenance and upkeep appear to be a recurring issue, with complaints about out-of-service equipment and a lack of organization. The inconsistency in equipment availability, as well as the need for members to re-rack weights, can be frustrating and may impact the overall workout experience. While the gym's services and amenities are extensive on paper, their functionality and cleanliness are important factors to consider. A potential member should take a tour of the facility during a peak time to see the condition of the gym firsthand and to verify that the equipment they need is available and in working order. Ultimately, for those who are willing to overlook potential organizational challenges in exchange for a wide variety of amenities at a good price, LA Fitness can be a suitable choice. It's a gym that provides the tools, but the quality of the experience depends heavily on the member's expectations and the gym's commitment to continuous improvement.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Love the location of this gym to my house. Good equipment, kind staff, good pricing. However, I am quite disappointed at the upkeep of the gym. I find that a lot of people here don’t re-rack their weights. There is random equipment everywhere: weights all over the floor, plates everywhere, barbells with weight still on them, missing dumbbells, etc. I understand this isn’t something that can necessarily be controlled by staff, people will do what they want. I’ve spent a lot of time putting things back to be respectful, even if I hadn’t used the equipment. However it really disappoints me that the staff does not seem to care that the gym is a mess. I wish a sweep of the gym happened every few hours or so. It takes so long to try and find something you need when it’s in a different place than it should be. Additionally, there is a real challenge with the weight section. There are not a lot of options for lower weight (no 10 pound or lower, only 1 pair of 15s, but 3 pairs of 60s, and multiples of higher weights in the dumbbell section). I came from a cheaper gym and the upkeep was a bit better. Hopefully this improves as time goes on and reviews are posted.
October 25 · Tess OttingerThe staff is good to go, but there are WAAAAAAAAY TOO MANY equipment out of service at this location. I joined this month and I am really serious about my fitness goals. The photos below don’t even show HALF of what’s out of service. Why charge your members a maintenance fee if they cannot use the equipment? The crank machine literally only needs someone to take a hex screw to tighten it. There are even machines without out of service signs, so you wont even know until you start working out. Whoever is overseeing this location needs to fix the equipment. FIX THE JACOB LADDER!
January 26 · AP JNauseatingly hot and moist inside. Basement gym, Temps over 80, no ventilation other than filthy fans. Concrete ceilings visibly dripping with damp and coated in black mold. Impossible to get a good workout in these conditions.
July 31 · Will HMy patience has worn out for this gym over time. Machines are broken for several weeks and completely unusable every time I come in. No one unracks their weights and if you want dumbbells they are scattered everywhere throughout the gym because no one puts them back. It’s frustrating having to do all that work just to do a set. Everything is taken so I find myself having to go up to people and ask to work in every single set I do or rewrite my entire program. The staff is very unfriendly and negligent. The same pieces of equipment and the pool area have been out of order for months. I’m cancelling today cause I always find myself going to planet fitness since I can actually use more stuff there. My old review: Equipment is decent, although a lot of things I used to use at my old gym are missing and nearly everything is taken all the time. Staff is a bit unfriendly-some of them won’t even say hi at the front desk and then every five minutes before they close, they flash the lights several times. I get they want to get people’s attention who have earbuds, but seems a bit extra. Weights are always, always out all over the place and every bar always has plates on it that someone got up and left without unracking. It becomes annoying to have to clean up after someone else every time before I use something. They should do better at enforcing this or have staff put things away. Over all, not the worst gym I’ve been to, but room for improvement.
March 07 · Emily WootenWhen I first joined this gym, they had a pool, hot tub, and other nice facilities. Now, the entire pool area has been shut down—but that’s not even the main issue.I currently pay $29.99 per month just for one person. When I asked about upgrading to a guest pass, I was told I’d need to pay $23 upfront plus an additional $20 per month. On top of that, if I want access to any LA Fitness location, it would cost another $23 upfront and $25 more per month. That adds up to almost $80 per month.Meanwhile, my girlfriend has the Black Card membership at Planet Fitness. She pays $25 a month, can go to any location, and bring a guest with her—no extra fees.In my opinion, LA Fitness is just not worth it. Their machines are frequently out of order or “scheduled for maintenance.” It’s frustrating and disappointing. I expected more for the price.
