LA Fitness Introduce
For New Yorkers on Staten Island seeking a comprehensive and spacious gym, LA Fitness on Hylan Boulevard presents a well-known option. As a full-service fitness center, it offers a vast array of equipment and programs designed to cater to a wide range of fitness goals. From intense strength training to a variety of group classes, the gym aims to provide something for everyone. This location is part of a national chain, which means it offers the standard amenities and services that members have come to expect from the brand. Its primary draw for many is its sheer size and the quantity of machines available, which can be a significant advantage during peak hours.
The gym’s environment is one of potential and possibility. The presence of a variety of classes and knowledgeable personal trainers is a major selling point, with members noting the "wonderful" trainers and the "good" variety of classes and instructors. This provides a supportive structure for those who need guidance or prefer a guided workout. The spacious layout, with dedicated areas for cardio and free weights, ensures that members have ample room to move and work out. However, as is often the case with large gyms, the member experience can be a mixed bag, with some aspects receiving high praise and others falling short of expectations. The gym’s potential for a great workout is undeniable, but the overall experience is a topic of conversation among members.
One of the key draws for many is the sheer volume of equipment. With "lots of machines," members often find what they need to complete their workout without waiting. This is a crucial factor for those on a tight schedule. The gym also offers a number of amenities that, when functional, add significant value, such as a sauna and a pool. These features can turn a workout session into a more comprehensive wellness experience, allowing members to relax and recover after a hard workout. However, as some reviews suggest, the functionality of these amenities can be inconsistent, which is a point of frustration for some members. The gym's potential is immense, but the experience ultimately depends on a few key factors that are worth considering.
The community and social atmosphere can also vary. While some members appreciate the friendly faces, others have found the staff's professionalism and the overall energy to be a point of concern. The experience of joining a large gym like LA Fitness is often a balance between the resources provided and the human element of staff and fellow members. Ultimately, this location serves as a versatile space for many on Staten Island, offering the tools needed for a fitness journey while also highlighting the importance of management and cleanliness in a gym environment.
The LA Fitness location is situated at 2656 Hylan Blvd, 2ND Floor Ste 250, Staten Island, NY 10306, USA. This prime address places it on a major thoroughfare on Staten Island, making it a highly accessible destination for residents across the borough. As part of a larger commercial complex, the gym is a familiar landmark for many in the area, which simplifies the process of finding the location. Being on Hylan Boulevard means it is connected to a network of roads that make it easy to reach by car from various neighborhoods.
One of the notable features of this gym is its accessibility. The facility has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which is a crucial amenity that ensures the gym is inclusive and welcoming to individuals with mobility challenges. This feature demonstrates a commitment to providing a space where a wider range of the population can pursue their fitness goals. While the entrance is accessible, the gym's location on the second floor may require the use of an elevator, which is a common setup in multi-story commercial buildings. The ease of access for all members is a positive aspect of this location, and the straightforward address contributes to its convenience for local New Yorkers.
As a gym situated within a shopping plaza, parking is typically available, which is a major convenience for those who drive. The location on a major commercial street also means that it is likely well-served by public transportation routes, offering another option for accessibility. The combination of a central location on a major boulevard and its inclusive accessibility features makes this LA Fitness a practical choice for many in Staten Island. Whether you're coming from a nearby residential area or a different part of the borough, the location is designed to be a convenient destination for your workout.
LA Fitness offers a diverse range of services designed to accommodate various fitness preferences and goals. The gym's offerings go beyond just a room of equipment, providing structured programs and expert guidance to help members on their fitness journey. Here is a list of the key services offered at the Hylan Boulevard location:
Personal Training: The gym provides personal training services to members. According to reviews, the personal trainers are "wonderful," indicating a high level of satisfaction with their expertise and guidance. Personal training is ideal for those who need a customized plan or one-on-one motivation to meet their goals.
Group Fitness Classes: The gym boasts a "good" variety of group classes. The schedule includes a mix of options such as Pilates, yoga, and other functional exercises. These classes are led by instructors, making them a great way to stay motivated and try new forms of exercise in a social setting.
Youth Classes: LA Fitness offers classes tailored for youth, providing an opportunity for younger members to engage in physical activity and learn proper exercise techniques in a fun and supervised environment. This service highlights the gym's family-friendly potential.
Weight Lifting and Resistance Training: With a large selection of equipment, the gym is well-suited for both weight lifting and resistance training. This includes free weights and various machines, allowing members to build strength and muscle tone effectively.
Functional Exercises: In addition to traditional weight lifting, the gym supports functional exercises, which are important for improving daily movement and overall athletic performance. This broad range of offerings ensures that members can engage in a well-rounded fitness routine.
While the services are comprehensive, some amenities like the sauna and pool may not always be fully functional, as noted in a review. This is an important detail for potential members who are primarily interested in these features. The gym's core services, particularly the personal training and group classes, appear to be well-regarded and provide a solid foundation for a successful fitness regimen.
The LA Fitness on Hylan Boulevard has several key features and highlights that are consistently mentioned by its members, both positive and negative. These aspects provide a clear picture of the member experience and what potential users can expect. Here are some of the key highlights and features of the gym:
Spacious Layout and Abundant Equipment: The gym's size and the quantity of machines are a major highlight. Members appreciate that it is "really spacious and has lots of machines," which makes it easier to get a workout in, even when the gym is busy. This is a significant advantage over smaller, more crowded facilities.
Variety of Classes and Instructors: The "class variety is good and so are most of the instructors." This offers members a chance to mix up their routine and find a class that fits their interests and fitness level, from Zumba to Yoga.
Wonderful Personal Trainers: The quality of the personal trainers is a notable positive. A review states they are "wonderful," indicating that members feel supported and guided by knowledgeable professionals.
Inconsistent Functionality of Amenities: A significant drawback mentioned in a review is that various amenities like the "sauna" and "pool" are "broken and not looking like they’ll be fixed." This is a key detail for anyone interested in these specific features.
Cleanliness and Maintenance Issues: A major concern raised by a member is the lack of cleanliness. The review mentions "nasty hairballs in the sinks" and "dust that’s been accumulating for weeks." This suggests a need for more diligent cleaning staff to maintain a hygienic environment.
Lack of Professionalism at the Front Desk: One reviewer was "genuinely disheartened" by the "permanently boring, consistently unengaged and uninterested" manager at the front desk. This highlights a concern with the overall professionalism and welcoming atmosphere from the staff.
These features illustrate a gym with great potential due to its size and resources, but one that is hindered by issues related to maintenance, cleanliness, and staff professionalism. The experience seems to be a balance of high-quality equipment and classes versus challenges with facility upkeep and customer service.

When considering a gym in Staten Island, LA Fitness on Hylan Boulevard offers a mix of pros and cons that are worth weighing. The primary reason to choose this gym is its sheer size and the extensive range of equipment and classes. If you are looking for a gym with a vast selection of cardio machines, free weights, and resistance equipment, this location can meet your needs. The variety of group classes, from Pilates to Yoga, also makes it an appealing option for those who enjoy working out with others or want to try different forms of exercise. The availability of "wonderful" personal trainers is another strong point, providing expert guidance for those who need it.
However, the decision to join should be made with full awareness of the potential drawbacks. The reviews from real customers highlight significant issues with cleanliness and maintenance. A gym's hygiene is a critical factor for a comfortable and safe workout environment, and the complaints about "nasty hairballs" and accumulating "dust" are serious concerns. Additionally, the reported issues with broken amenities like the sauna and pool, along with a lack of weights being put back in their place, can detract from the overall experience. The review about the front desk manager's "unengaged and uninterested" demeanor also points to a broader customer service issue that could affect your experience over time.
Ultimately, this LA Fitness location is a trade-off. You get access to a large, well-equipped space with a good variety of classes and expert trainers. However, you may have to overlook or deal with cleanliness and maintenance issues, as well as potential lapses in customer service. For some, the expansive space and array of equipment might be a worthwhile compromise, especially if their focus is strictly on the workout itself. For others, the issues with hygiene and staff professionalism may be deal-breakers. By being informed of both the strengths and weaknesses, you can make a decision that best fits your priorities and expectations for a gym in New York.

LA Fitness Reviews
The gym is really spacious and has lots of machines. The class variety is good and so are most of the instructors. The personal trainers are wonderful! However, various amenities are broken and not looking like they’ll be fixed (sauna, pool). There is a shortage of weights and they’re never cleaned up or put back in the right place. The worst part is the cleaning staff doesn’t do their job at all. There’s always nasty hairballs in the sinks, dust that’s been accumulating for weeks if not months in the room where classes take place. The paper towels in the women’s locker room run out at least once a month. This would be a great gym if the manager actually cared about making it functional and making sure the staff keeps it clean and not as gross as it currently is.
July 11 · Aleksandra Krasinska⭐☆☆☆☆ 1 starI usually don’t leave reviews, but I feel it’s important to share this. Yesterday, I had yet another experience that left me feeling genuinely disheartened. The manager at the front desk of the LA Fitness on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island is permanently boring, consistently unengaged and uninterested when interacting with members. He’s not rude — just completely indifferent — which, over time, feels just as unwelcoming. It’s disappointing when the person representing the gym creates such a flat, disengaged atmosphere. I hope LA Fitness takes this seriously, because good energy and basic professionalism should be part of the member experience.I hope LA Fitness takes a closer look at how this reflects on their brand, especially when so many other gyms value customer service.
July 08 · Milla ZhikharevaThis LA location is an embarrassment.Zero effort is put in by staff members to enforce gym etiquette. There’s literal craters in the floor by the free weight section. No one re-racks anything. You have to play hunters and gathers just to find 2 of the same weights. Attachments for the cable machines are non-existent. Machines will be broken for weeks at a time. The sauna hasn’t been open since I first signed up almost 2 years ago. Plant Fitness keeps there gym in better condition and they charge 10$ a month.
July 25 · Becky KThis place used to be good but rn there are only 2 working stair climbers and its been this way for months. Also too many ppl feel comfortable being completely naked in the locker room doing nothing (not showering or using the sauna just sitting there naked for hours). The fountain is broken also. The staff is nice tho
July 17 · J LIt's good bc they have a lot of room and equipment. It's bad bc the staff NEVER reracks the weights. They say they do, but I've been here at all hours and I know they don't. Also the locker room is filthy and the free weight area literally has a broken floor they aren't fixing. It's the picture of a run down place. These pictures are from first thing in the morning. Only a member bc of the convenient location
