I usually go to the Middletown ymca but decided to try this one out. As a gay guy like myself I felt very accepted and welcomed by everyone. Got to work out with some cute twinks and jocks which was fun. Hit on a few guys in the locker room and also got their numbers which was a bonus!! Indoor and outdoor pools r very well maintained and clean. I enjoyed this one a lot more than Middletown one. I live a half mile from the Middletown one and this one about 15 minutes. I will drive 15 minutes rather then go to the Middletown one that’s always over run by rude teens and immature middle school boys running around naked in the locker room. This one feels a hell of a lot safer than Middletown . Definitely coming back again !!!! - Big web 45

Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA Introduce

For families and individuals in the Delaware region, the Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA, located at 351 George Williams Way in Newark, represents a unique and valuable resource that extends far beyond a typical fitness center. Unlike a commercial gym that focuses solely on workouts, the YMCA operates as a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the community through programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Its mission is to be a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities can come together to learn, play, and grow. This holistic approach makes it a hub of activity and a cornerstone of the community.

The Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA, being a more recently built facility, offers a significant advantage over some of the older YMCAs in the country. As one long-time member noted in a review, this location is "one of the best" they have visited, with "larger workout spaces than many YMCA's" and a broader "variety of programs." The commitment to providing a top-tier facility is evident in its well-maintained spaces and updated equipment. Members appreciate the modern amenities, which help them stay motivated and achieve their fitness goals. The staff, for the most part, are committed to the Y's mission and "enjoy helping people live a healthier life and recognize how important it is to the community," creating a generally positive and supportive environment.

A key aspect that sets this YMCA apart is its genuine commitment to inclusivity and creating a welcoming space for everyone. As one reviewer shared, as a gay man, they felt "very accepted and welcomed by everyone." The facility is explicitly described as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, which is an invaluable feature that ensures all members feel comfortable and respected. This inclusive atmosphere is a major differentiator from other gyms and is essential for building a diverse and thriving community. The reviewer's preference for this location over another nearby YMCA, due to a safer and more mature environment, speaks volumes about the culture that the Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA has successfully created.

Beyond the fitness facilities, the YMCA’s programs for all ages are what truly define its value. From extensive youth programming like leadership initiatives and summer camps to personal training and specialized classes for adults with health concerns, the organization caters to a wide spectrum of needs. One member praised the "compassionate" personal trainer who helped them with a newly diagnosed autoimmune disease, highlighting the personalized and caring approach of the staff. This level of support, combined with the availability of programs like private swim lessons and water classes for those with mobility issues, makes the YMCA a true partner in its members' health journeys. The highly inclusive and welcoming environment is another crucial factor. In a world where people are increasingly looking for safe and accepting spaces, the Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA's explicit designation as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, along with the positive experiences of members, makes it a standout choice.
