Asphalt Green's Battery Park City Campus is a prominent sports and fitness facility located in the heart of downtown Manhattan. This multi-faceted center serves as more than just a gym; it’s a community-oriented hub dedicated to health, wellness, and sports for New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. While it is well-known for its extensive youth programming and aquatic facilities, the campus also provides a variety of amenities for adult members. This overview will offer a factual look into what the Asphalt Green - Battery Park City Campus provides, including its location, services, and key features. For residents of lower Manhattan seeking a comprehensive center with diverse offerings, Asphalt Green presents an option that goes beyond a typical workout space.
The mission of Asphalt Green is to transform lives and build community through sports, fitness, and play. The Battery Park City Campus is a testament to this, housing state-of-the-art facilities that cater to a wide range of activities. It offers a variety of services, including personal training, online classes, and on-site services, as well as access to a gymnasium and pools. However, it is important for potential members to consider their specific fitness needs, as some public feedback suggests the facility's focus is heavily weighted towards its children's and aquatics programs. This prioritization may impact the experience for adults who are primarily interested in strength and weight training. Despite some limitations noted by serious gym-goers, the center remains a staple in the community, providing a solid foundation for general fitness and an excellent venue for aquatic and court sports.
The Asphalt Green - Battery Park City Campus is centrally located at 212 N End Ave, New York, NY 10282, USA. Its prime downtown location makes it easily accessible for residents and professionals working in Battery Park City, Tribeca, and the Financial District. The facility's position provides stunning waterfront views and is integrated into the vibrant downtown community, making it a convenient option for a wide range of New Yorkers.
Accessibility is a key feature of the campus. It is equipped with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and wheelchair-accessible restrooms, demonstrating a commitment to serving all community members. This inclusivity is a significant advantage for those with mobility needs. As a major urban center, parking can be a challenge in New York City, and while the facility has a parking lot, it is also easily reachable by a number of public transportation options, including subway lines and buses, which are widely available in this part of Manhattan. The combination of its central location and robust accessibility features makes the campus a practical and welcoming destination for a diverse population.

Asphalt Green - Battery Park City Campus is worth choosing for New Yorkers who are looking for a community-focused sports and wellness facility, especially for families and those with a primary interest in swimming or other court sports. The facility's world-class pool and comprehensive programs for children are significant strengths. However, it is crucial for a potential member to align their expectations with the center's primary focus. According to public reviews, the gym floor itself, while functional, may feel limited for those with serious strength training routines. The availability of equipment can be a concern during peak hours, with a noted lack of certain machines and an imbalance in equipment types. Additionally, some members have reported frustration with the shifting and limited hours for adult member access to key amenities like the basketball courts and pool, as these spaces are often reserved for more lucrative youth programs.
For the casual gym-goer or for someone who wants a place with a pool and a variety of classes, the facility offers a good value. However, for a dedicated strength trainer or someone who needs consistent, predictable access to specific equipment or courts, Asphalt Green may present some challenges. The membership-based model ensures a dedicated user base, and the friendly staff, as noted in a review, adds a positive element. Ultimately, the decision to choose this gym depends on what you are looking for. If you prioritize a family-friendly environment with excellent aquatic and youth sports programs and don't require an extensive strength training area or consistent open access to courts, Asphalt Green - Battery Park City Campus could be a suitable option. However, if your fitness goals require a more specialized or less constrained workout environment, it may be beneficial to explore other options in the area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The gym overall caters to their kids' program and the pool, which are the money making of the business. The gym alone, although decently priced ($75/month) is neglected and has just the bare minimum for your workouts.Benches break and it takes months to be either repaired or replaced.Due to limited machine availability, during peak hours all machines are frequently in use at the same time, leaving no choice but to wait rather than adjust the workout.I often complain about the exaggerated supply of treadmills in commercial gyms. At Asphalt Green is the opposite. With only 5 treadmills they are consistently occupied during peak hours, disrupting functional and interval training. Meanwhile, the numerous bikes and ellipticals remain underutilized. The absence of machines like a Smith machine, chest/shoulder press, and incline bench has limited our ability to complete well-rounded strength workouts.Overall, it's OK for casual gym goers - but if you are serious about your gym and strength training routine this place will quickly make you feel constrained. The neglecting of the equipment also just adds to the overall 'unwelcomeness' of the space. The floor staff is nice, though.Because of these reasons we had to cancel our membership, and we found a more suitable place to our needs.
August 05 · Enes LibohovaSigned up for this gym because I was told the basketball court was open to use at all hours and typically empty. After I signed up, they informed me I could only use the gym after 9pm (closes at 10). After a few months, they informed me the gym was only available before 4pm (I have a job). After another month, they changed the hours to 5am-6am and 12pm-1pm for members. I and all the other usual users of the court tried to end our memberships and asked for the cancellation fee to be waived and they declined. This warping of hours for members took place for the pool as well. Do not sign up for this gym unless you are prepared for you - a paying member - to be placed last on the priority list.
June 12 · Andrew CataldoAlong with the UES campus, Asphalt Green has some of the best pools in NYC. Special shoutout to Lisbeth! She was incredible kind and helpful when I signed up for my membership. Really appreciate it. :)
August 17 · Lauren McDonnellI have been a member here on and off for over 10 years and I really love the facilities and the atmosphere. It has a nice mix of family friendly energy as well as those seeking serious athletic performance. Personally I really appreciate the necks of children, elderly, and the more serious athletic types.
May 03 · imagista theimagistaMember for a couple years now but considering canceling. Maybe my expectations are excessive but the pool is consistently overcrowded in the AM regardless of time (4-5 per lane); lifeguards don’t actively manage (e.g. swim paces, lane closures). Gym equipment breaks frequently (two of five treadmills currently out of order) and only one of six men’s showers has hot water.
